67 Dart foot brake car project - 11/17/19 03:14 PM

So...decided I was tired of not having a car I could bracket race occasionally and haven't bottom bulb raced since the 80's so here we go. Didn't want to do anything to the car that might keep it from being able to be returned to the street someday if I wanted to so here's the build so far, US Car Tool mini tub kit and sub frame connectors, glass hood and front bumper, aluminum seat and chrome moly 8 point roll bar. I used an old dash, blocked off the glove box and gauge pod holes and installed oil pressure and water temp gauges, tach in mounted in the ash tray hole with a shift light. Used a narrowed 8 3/4 with a spool and 4:10 gear, 727 with an old 10" convertor I had on the shelf. The engine is a stock bottom end 5.9 magnum, KB zero deck pistons, with a set of out of the box Edelbrocks, an air gap manifold, a Hughes .577 hyd roller and a set of their SS rockers, MSD ignition and an old school 750 double pumper with a Holley blue pump. Car weighs 3080 with me in it with steel wheels all the way around and a set of MT 10.5 X 28 ET streets out back. Took it to a foot brake race Friday night and got one TT, timing was set at 30 degrees and shifted at 5800 hitting the high side limiter (6100) on both shifts, went a 7.49@92 mph leaving at 2000 rpm. Since I was just playing with the car anyway I put 4 degrees more timing in it and raised the shift point to 6000 and rev limiter to 6500, threw a 7.40 dial on it and let her rip, went a 7.35 on the brakes to 88 mph, had the guy covered and still took too much stripe for the lose. Oh well, they open the lanes a little later so I got one more TT but by then the track temp had dropped into the 40s and it lost 60' to a 7.40 at 94 mph. Learned a lot and established a baseline...some changes for the winter are some aluminum wheels, maybe a fuel cell and some fine tuning, I'd like to see f it will go a low 7 or maybe even a high 6. Wondering how much rpm a stock bottom end can take lol.

Nice ride sounds like a good start to a consistent bracket car

Nice - I'm building a similar 68 Dart post car but keeping it street/strip so I can still drive it to work and around town.

Crazy thing about all of this is I'm in the middle of preparing to move...not supposed to be jacking around with a race car but all I could think about all weekend was was winter changes to make it just a tad quicker and I couldn't keep the bench racers out of my shop from distracting me... drive laugh2 up
