Hemi project almost done

Hemi project almost done - 11/09/19 06:02 PM

I had posted on here the issues that I had with a previous build. Bob Meyers at Performance Automotive in Greenville TN is close to finishing the engine.
To go back, the engine had the wrong main bearings, the cylinder walls had no finish, and Bob had to replace everything in the heads except the castings!
Here are some photos. So the combo is as follows:
4.360” bore
4.50” stroke
10.2 Compression Coated Diamond pistons
MP heads ported by Bob (340 cam intake @ actual cam lift)
MP “Marine intake with two Holly 750 vacuum secondary carbs
248 I and 254 E @ .050 with .585 net lift on 112 LC solid roller cam
Small TTI street headers.

This engine is going in a 4,100 lb 66’ Coronet STREET car with 3,54 gears and Gear Vendor.

It is strictly a pump gas cruiser.

Any guess as to how much HP it will Dyno at?

Is it going on the dyno?

Re: Hemi project almost done - 11/09/19 06:14 PM

Yes, it will be Brocken in, tuned with A/F sensors and then power pulls

4.5 inch stroke? Wow, it should make some torque. Not sure about the HP but it will definitely make some torque. Were you able to fit an internal oil pickup tube around the 4.50 inch stroke? I see the external line so I'm guessing you removed the internal pickup and are external only?

Yes I have a external swinging pickup with baffles.

Whos heads are they? Where they flowed at 28. inches of water?
I'm going to take SWAG and say if it doesn't make 600 HP with those parts something is drastically wrong shruggy
I've made 600+ HP on CA pump swill with a 472 C.,I street hemi motor with iron heads and a stock intake with a set of stock (jetted better)1966 Street hemi Carter AFB years ago, that motor had a half way decent solid lifter flat tappet street cam in that motor also, I don't remember the exact specs now though, sorry blush
Be ready for instant tire smoke work up devil boogie

Cab, The heads are Mopar Performance. Some of the last ones Mancini had, 2009?

Re: Hemi project almost done - 12/07/19 02:38 PM

So to continue, The engine is done, tuned and has made power pulls. The result? 665 HP @ a street friendly 5,900 rpm. 679 ft. Lb. of torque @ 4,400 rpm. To emphasize the “street” build, it made right at 500 HP @ 4,000 rpm.
These #s represent the engine installed in the car. Small TTI headers, Dual plane intake, and run on pump 93 octane from a station just down the road from the shop!

Man that car would be a blast to cruise. Nice numbers, should be real hard on tires lol.

Re: Hemi project almost done - 12/07/19 03:24 PM

Perhaps I shouldn’t post details of this engine on a “racing” forum, but I enjoy reading the technical info posted here and thought you might be interested in a “slightly different” build.
This engine was built for a real “street” car that weighs 4,175lb, has a 727 with the tightest possible 11” converter, 3.54 gears and a Gear Vendor overdrive.
So, torque, high idle vacuum for the power disk brakes, low speed drivability, low maintenance and the ability to buy gas anywhere I happened to find myself, were the priorities.
All the clearances were set on the tight side. Diamond coated 4032 allow pistons were chosen for the tight .003-.0035 piston to wall clearance were used. All the bearings are coated, a Napier second ring was used for oil control.
The engine will run full. Synthetic low viscosity oil and pump gas.

I bet there's more power in it if you get the AFR closer to 13-13.5 -1. Glad to see you will be able to enjoy your car.

Re: Hemi project almost done - 12/07/19 05:14 PM

The brake specifics look a little rich, it might run better in the car with the hood closed a little leaner, especially at light part throttle cruise work scope

Re: Hemi project almost done - 12/07/19 07:57 PM

Cab, thanks for the observation. On a street car that spends a lot of time at part throttle, I am a firm believer in vacume advance. I have an adjustable unit and I run quite a lot of advance with it. Extra timing at part throttle will lean out the AF quite a bit so we will see.
I am planning on installing AF gauge in the car so I can see what “real world” is
