Isn't blowing over fairly common when racing boats? I wonder if some sort of flap like the roof flaps in NASCAR would keep the front end down when it gets too high? They would have to be manually controlled. It happens very fast though. Might not have time to react.

It doesn't happen that often but when it does it can be tragic .... this one here ....

BOTH guys got killed !

THAT crash was investigated .... supposedly they hit a small wave and caught a gust of wind at the same time....

Hydroplanes have been flipping (blowover) for over 50 years. By their very nature they are part aircraft, part boat,

Hydroplanes have a driver controlled wing between the sponsons to control how high the boat flies. The problem is stuff happens pretty quick at 150 mph and once the air gets under the boat it rotates right now. Tenths of a second between all's well and she's junk. All it takes is a gust of wind and an ill timed bounce and it's all over.

I remember watching two unlimited hydroplane race boats(turbine powered or jet engine powered, I think CRS)) flip over side by side in San Diego harbor 25+Yrs ago on national T.V. whiney
I don't think any racers got hurt in those two crashes, THANKS to GOD bow
Circle boat racing is as or more dangerous than drag racing is work shruggy

Black Sunday, the worst casualty day in boat racing. 1966
Rex Manchester, Ron Munson (in the green dragon Miss Bardahl) and Don Wilson all perished. The sport eventually got much safer over the years but not before claiming such notables as Bill Muncey and Dean Chenoweth.

I saw Jerry Bangs leave us in Seattle.

So I could not in the video see any noticeable wave. If there was that played a part, it would have had to be perpendicular to their path, since both boats flipped at exact same time.
I am wondering could both boats being side by side caused each other to flip from their aero wake?
Anybody know the precise location, looks like its off the shoreline of "The Pier House resort" at end of Duval street.
