Is that the little red on? I have several I can check for you if so I have several MSD race coils from the early Mallory to one of the newer transformer type
Yes sir......Cab if you can check the primary side and the secondary if you can for me Thaxs. I have one of the Mallory coils here that check 12.5 on the secondary and .3 on the primary. Can't seem to get a reading (resistance) on those secondary side of there pro coils .
Muti-meter …...measured in ohms 200 in primary,20k in secondary. I can get a measure in the primary but not in the secondary try to check and see if a coil is bad.....Thaxs.
I'm using a Fluke 87 meter and I got .820 K ohm from the - to the coil output, .819K from the + to the coil post and .3K (300 ohms)from the - to the+ posts at 32 degrees F in my car trailer.
The primary resistance is measured with the probes on the positive and the negative terminals of the coil. This value will vary between coils, but a rule of thumb on MSD’s coils would be between .03 - .7 ohms.
Secondary resistance is measured between the coil + terminal and the secondary tower (where the spark plug connects). This reading also will vary between the make of the coil, but it should be somewhere between 200 – 14,000 ohms! Quite a range. The important thing to look for is that there is not an open or a short in the windings.
Thaxs…. Cab for the effort That's what I got on the primary's .03 but I can't get a ohms reading on the secondary side of the coil, maybe it's a bad coil ……….Thaxs for the effort.
