Where is that post from - I'm more interested in what that cowl hood looks like.
Thx

It looks like it is in the midst of being completely redone. I was praying it was in "as ran" condition by Monte from the late 90's. Still good to know it is out there.

Re: Monte Smith - GTX - 08/29/19 02:57 PM
I seem to recall he had it all apart to update it for a class that suffered a rules change making it uncompetitive before he got it finished. Then it got back burnered by life.

With the tubes all rusty like that it looks like it has been stored in an out building. Too bad, hate to see a bunch of hard work rust away.

Yep, he was completely updating the chassis and had a fairly small cubic inch B1/TS combo he was putting together. Think it kind of got "ruled" out of being competitive so he just quit w/ it. Hope someone buys it and puts it back together.
He cut the stock firewall out of it, so that'd have to be fixed for it to be KOS legal.

That car is an icon.
It seemed like, for around 10 years I couldn't pick up a magazine without that car being in it somewhere.
They aren't really asking much for it, considering the history and all.

I thought the same. Would require ALOT of rust removal even if it's just surface rust.
Iconic car though; Love to see it completed and ran!

Before He passed, he had mentioned His plan was to finish it and build a Chevy based motor for it for LDR, due to the non existence of equivalent Mopar engine parts or it.

looks like a good deal, especially for a company like HOLLEY to showcase all their new products. THe car can take a BBC, BBM, LS, etc and it could be raced at a wide range of races across the country....As long as it was nitrous and not boosted..LOL
I remember seeing the GM station wagon that Holley owns in Hot Rod, this GTX would be way cool for them to finish and use for demos

I feel the car should be completed with the planned power plant, if saved as a tribute to Monte.

Re: Monte Smith - GTX - 08/30/19 07:54 PM
ANYONE THAT knew even just a little about Monte, Knew that this car was going back together and to be competitive at Drag Radial events it was going to get a 632, just because they are plentiful and cheap...LOL
90% of Moparts would have hated this car IF Monte completed it. It was going to have GM based motor , trans and a ford 9" . Monte was a mopar guy, but he knew what it took to run at the front and he was prepared to go there ! !
RIP Monte

NO!!!!!!!!!!
It needs to be restored to its KOS (circa 90s) setup

Re: Monte Smith - GTX - 08/31/19 04:47 AM
I wonder where the TS headed engine he had built ended up? It had a custom Donovan block from memory, he did talk about putting a screw blower on it before his thinking of the BBC
That car had purple headlights back in the day? Or am I confusing it with someone else's car

The person who buys it can do whatever they want with it. Too bad it won't be me.

You are correct. It's part of the reason my new car has purple headlights. A tribute to Monte, who answered numerous questions , when I started doing the chassis work.

facepage link worked for me.
thank you !
am i wrong in thinking that chassis may clean up good with a sandblasting ? unless, of course, there is really deep pitting.
other's opinions ?
Is that a mild steel cage, and if so how old is it.

Moly Cage.

Moly Cage.
Well if it was mine and I was selling it I think I would have the rust issue taken care of and get it certified. That would sure make it easier to sell.

If that is a 4130 cage it will clean up with red scotch brite.
It would be cool to see it run with any power plant. RIP!

I have never seen the inside of his barn but maybe a dirt floor got it. A guy I know saw the car when it was at PTC and told me it was rusty junk.
RIP Monte.
