E-Body Hood Scoop??

E-Body Hood Scoop?? - 08/19/19 03:17 PM

Hello all, Im looking for ideas for a hood scoop for my 70 Challenger. It was a 318 that has a 440 "six pack" transplant. Im looking for options on the lower end of the cost spectrum but that still look stylish. Preferably something I can add to the stock flat hood after cutting a hole for the air cleaner to clear. Thanks in advance.

The best ever scoop on a Challenger is the TA. I would think someone makes a bolt on.

I don't see a T/A style hood scoop on the VFN Website. There is one that's close but it states it's for an A body... What are some other scoop manufacturers?

Thanks

I have never really been a fan of the TA scoop, always preferred the six pack scoop. Here mine from VFN

I don't think they sell just the scoop it self, I think you have to purchase the hood/w scoop.

Re: E-Body Hood Scoop?? - 08/21/19 03:59 PM

Unlimited Fiberglass has them, but I don't know about their quality.

PR-2 - outside mounting flange

PR-23 - inside mounting flange

http://up22.com/scoopw3.htm

It's more work, but I think the inside mounting flange would make for a cleaner looking installation.

Re: E-Body Hood Scoop?? - 08/21/19 07:28 PM

I ordered the unlimited scoop with the inside flange. Looking forward to it arriving. They say its 1 - 4 weeks for MFG. Does that sound typical??

Thanks again all!!

Find "inspiration" from the Drag Pak Challenger...

Give the hood to a local fiberglass guru w/ some requirements to raise the scoop 1.5"...

That thing is going to slow you down 2mph because of all the air it's grabbing.
Like mounting a 5 gallon bucket on the hood. laugh

Re: E-Body Hood Scoop?? - 08/23/19 01:35 AM

Then I'll put a 5" cowl scoop on it.

Re: E-Body Hood Scoop?? - 08/23/19 09:00 PM

One thing I did was build my hood in 2 sections.. the center is smaller and has 3 clips and the outer section
holding it down.. the outer piece (hood itself) has 10 fasteners holding it down.. good to as at least 152 mph
plus no glue holding it together

Re: E-Body Hood Scoop?? - 08/24/19 09:45 AM

Here's ours. It's a mongrelized 6 pack 9" in height, clears an Indy tunnel ram with 2 1150's and a 4 inch filter. not to every ones taste but we sorta got used to it. Built because we used to travel the car on an open trailer, now we use an enclosed I'm going to get a flat hood and cut a hole in it and poke the carbs through with a (purple) perspex scoop

If you are on about ours then no, not at the moment. Over here in the UK, we have to have an "MOT" which is a certificate of road worthiness test. Unfortunately it won't pass due to having the forward vision obscured by the scoop, another reason why I'm going to a flat hood but every thing else is OK up

Do they(UK) allow any height scoops to be legal

Yeah, if it had been 3 or 4 inches in height we might have got away with it but it's really wide too. I've also once drove into a short scale dragster in the pairing lanes so i can see the argument blush

What brand hood? Pin-on at all 4 corners, or hinged in the back?

Looks nice; I had to grow my own. Apparently you can buy a complete early-style (2008 thru ?) lift-off Drag Pak hood for $2K+, but nobody offers a replica/replacement Drag Pak scoop separately.

Unlimited, hinged, stock latch with 2 quik latch pins( the small ones, my mistake, should have phonyed up for the larger ones) came off going thru the traps about 115 mph.

I got lucky, found someone who lost a hood in the big end, the scoop was ok, when they ordered a new hood it came with a new scoop, so I talked them out of the old one

Not noticeably, the scoop grew as the hp grew laugh
I'll have to wait until next year to see if the flat hood and perspex scoop improves things.

Put a cowl on it, they work better anyway.

One of these days I will get back on my Super Shaker scoop and hood to clear my tunnel ram and dual Dominator carbs on my Hemi. Will still function as the factory shaker when done.

Do you run any type of air-cleaner with the cowl setup?

Yes, a std round 16" Dominator. Our return road is a bit dusty & I drive back to the pit.

Re: E-Body Hood Scoop?? - 08/31/19 09:52 AM

I put a cowl scoop on my Barracuda but with a 2-inch merge spacer under my dominator, the cowl hits the cleaner. I will have to look for a lower profile cleaner.

I saw once where someone made a plastic newspaper box into a tunnel ram scoop. shruggy I thought maybe not big enough. Now a 5 gallon bucket that's a whole different story laugh2. Next question is do you point the opening forward, rearward or straight up like a giant velocity stack? popcorn
If I got a Home Depot bucket the color would match my car. boogie
