Made from a solid hunk of cantaffordium

surprised its a weldment. also surprised they didn't go straight for the crossbolts

Definitely the gourmet stuff.
Bigger bore centers would address a need , but then you need heads for them.
And even though I don't see myself in the market for one , I do like the approach.

CFE Racing as in Carl Foltz in Eastpoint Michigan? I see its a 586 area code. Well if that's Carl's block, you can bet its a great piece.

I totally agree. They do all of Prostocks billet intakes.
I spoke to Carl last year.
What a knowledgeable guy and easy to talk to.

I wonder if some Predator heads are going on top of it, for a Black Dart?

Noonan did a water jacketed Hemi block last year for Drag Week

but then you need heads for them

and a crank, and a cam, and an intake manifold, and a pan (and motor mounts, a driveshaft?).
IMHO this is only practical when you've reached a point of development where more inches is better use of money than the existing available parts.
Makes boost look cheap, don't it?

Distributer is in the wrong spot..... but still pretty cool! It’s great seeing ANY new stuff coming down the pipe Mopar related!!!

Welding allows internal construction that cannot be cast

A thousand here..........a thousand there.
Pretty soon , you're talking real money.
But yeah.........I saw an 807 " Billet everything in a carbon fiber '71 Mustang at Houston Motorsports park last summer and I haven't been the same since.
Bickel built , four stages of spray.......it was literally more car than they had track for.

How is boost cheap when it quickly can push well beyond what a stock block can handle?Anything in a Mopar block other than a Hemi that is over 700hp is pretty much on borrowed time. Strokers with good heads already hit 700hp easily....So adding boost is like burning the wick at both ends...These are the kinds of blocks you need for boost.

What type of welds were used to construct the welded block assembly ?
Posted By: TRENDZ

Re: New Billet BBM Water Block !! - 06/26/19 10:34 AM

It’s a billet block. No casting.
Welding is easier than the alternative which would be bolt on sealed covers.
I like the china wall placement. Easy to prevent valvetrane parts from migrating into the spinny part of the engine.
Also like the dual pattern bell.
Nice, I bet it isn’t all that more expensive than a new priced KB.

Re: New Billet BBM Water Block !! - 06/26/19 11:31 AM

Looks to me like it has a rather decent head placement platform for serious blower and or high strung turbo set ups to prevent head gasket/sealing problems.

Re: New Billet BBM Water Block !! - 06/26/19 12:33 PM

Am I correct that the welded areas are to close up the access for the CNC machine to cut out water jackets?

Looks very nice! Depending on how thick the welded on plate is on the outside of the block, that looks like it can create some header fitment problems.

Is that work of art heat treated/stress relieved/cyro'd during the build/weld process?

That might be proprietary, so a general response is fine.

I would like to see some pics prior to welding, just to see what kind of weld joints were used?

While this block isn't for everyone cost wise ( 16K water....14K dry ) it's a drop in the bucket for some !!!

What gets my curiosity is why as CFE has plenty on their plate already for them to do a BBM billet block !!!

14K dry is a joke. CN makes a good looking billet block for $9,000 and I don't think BAE is higher.

For the guys looking to stay with a Mopar in the fast classes, this is a good avenue......I still remember when blocks were $2495 and people were complaining....

Re: New Billet BBM Water Block !! - 06/26/19 07:15 PM

So who is gonna spend that much for a wedge block?
Aren't the Predator heads for a hemi block better than the wedge versions due to the bolt/port layout??
Most, if not all, of the super high powered stuff nowadays are blown or turbo hemis. Guess I'm not seeing the application for this? Especially at that price.

Re: New Billet BBM Water Block !! - 06/26/19 07:32 PM

I started out in the sport I love running 13’s and had a blast. Now honestly I’m having fun running 9.40’s, actually 6.0’s in the 1/8 and racing every weekend when Mother Nature isn’t raining on our parade. Do I want to go faster, of course I do. But I’ve convinced myself that I can’t afford to build a competitive heads up car seeing the big bucks guys are putting into their builds and then burning themselves out on the sport. I watch guys putting a few runs on every year, pulling th engine, and dropping it off to their favorite builder for a refresh. No thanks I’ll stick to my budget builds and enjoy the sport and what I can do with my hands and my money

While I'll never be in the market for a block, it is good to see someone expanding the Mopar parts line. boogie

I have heard that before, but having built 2 Predators (1 with Hemi mead pattern and 1 with the wedge pattern) I don't believe that to be true and would not hesitate to build a wedge Predator. Al Alguire's made more power than mine with wedge heads so? The block is for the high end racer as is the CFE stuff in general. The general public will never buy a product like this, and they know it. It's not for that. It's for the guys that want to race a Mopar product and don't care what the cost is. That's not me. One other side note, it wouldn't matter if you wanted a GM design, the price would be the same.

I think you mean the development cost? Perhaps.
But the price is greatly affected by projected sales volume.
Do you think you could sell more BBM heads like that? Or BBC heads? That would make the BBC cheaper.

But no one would buy a BBC head at that price, since there are already comparable products much cheaper.

Re: New Billet BBM Water Block !! - 06/26/19 10:26 PM

Since predators are available in hemi config (better than wedge), and blown power is better with hemi heads, why make a wedge block? Runnig alky you'd get by with no water, or just in the head sooooo There must be something more going on. Or they made one for someone, and now have the program.

Those would be made from a forging, less to machine off. Hemi Billet blocks are probably the cheapest available as basically all Nitro guys run them.

I would imagine CFE are making them from a rectangular billet, for whatever reason

It may be possible to forge a block, but I doubt it.

Brad Anderson Blocks are Forged then machined.

I am no expert, but I assume the jackets are 5 axis machined and the deck plates welded on, but that is a guess based on this vid.

They're a basic shape forging of the outside of the block and the lifter valley. I think there are pics on BAE's website, or I may have seen them on their Facebook page.
