What would you build? SB Blower max effort with these rules - 06/15/19 05:04 AM

Here are the rules.

Maximum of 380cu.in. blown small block, supercharger limited to 6-71 with
18% overdrive or 8-71 with 10% overdrive, or a single turbocharger with an
input of 83mm by 130mm. ALL FORD, CHRYSLER & GM SMALL BLOCK ENGINES
ARE ALLOWED 380CI MAXIMUM AND MUST USE THE ORIGINAL DEGREE OF VALVE TRAIN
ANGLE FOR THAT SPECIFIC BLOCK. ONLY SBC STANDARD (23 DEGREE) IS ALLOWED. ALL GM
LS BLOCKS ARE NOT PERMITTED.

What would you build for mopar with these rules, max effort? Probaly can be Billet heads too. Needs to be 1200+++hp. It would be for a Mini-Mod tractor pulling class.

From what I have been told the Gen 3 hemi is fine. Actually one person in the club is already using one with a blower.

So you think one of those would be better then trying to use some of the W or P heads?

With the way the rules are stated do you think it would be allowed to use the mopar W or P heads??

If only 23* Chevy stuff is legal, I wouldn’t spend a penny of W or P stuff until I had it it writing from the rules committee it would be legal, without penalties, for at least 3 years.

Those heads are clearly outside the “intent” of the class.

I wouldn’t build anything where the big stuff(blocks, rotating assy’s, head castings, etc) wasn’t readily available.

He hasn't beaten anyone on the tech committee yet, "spirit of the rules" means "it's not in the rules".

Thinking about it a little more and you are very right. Wouldn't take long for someone to outlaw it.

You make a good point. The guy with it has a nice looking machine, but hasn't come close to winning. Same with the P/W heads I would have to make it very clear and have it in writing if they will be allowed or not. Here is a video of their first outing this year.

Not to be the wet blankie, but the LSR/SCTA site is full of "I wrote with pictures and details, and got a letter back saying it's legal, but when I got to the tech line I got failed. I took 2 weeks off, traveled 1,000 miles, and spent $$$ for nothing, but Boyd Coddington's wife does whatever she wants."

Very strange the Hemi is allowed but the LS isn’t. If you’re going to do a Hemi I’d stick to junkyard parts and test the waters, just in case they pull the carpet out from underneath you. Good thing is JY parts will get you there. Buy a Hellcat short block, put some ported Eagle or Apache heads on it, whichever power added you want and see what happens.

So if we are all saying the W/P heads are out and there is a good chance the Gen 3 Hemi heads "will" be out...... What are the heads to go with?

Might want to see if Gen 1 stuff is legal.

I’m pretty sure everything needed is available new.

Im pretty sure all P heads have non stock valve angles, and some W heads also.
I think the Brodix BA would be legal from your rules.
I agree with those that are weary of the rule change about the hemi. You seem to be very much on your game, and it wouldn’t be long before the hemi gets outlawed. My honest opinion is if they let you have a turbo hemi, no other combo could touch it.

W2-5 heads have stock 18 degree valve angles. The W7 has 15 degree valve angles. I forget the rest of them.

W2 and W5 are the only 18 degree heads, the others are 15 degree standard.

You could get a set of unmachined W9 castings, or W8 if you can find them, and roll them to 18 degrees. But that may not be in the "spirit of the rules" Haha
