Howdy!

I hope I’m not abusing this place asking so many questions- I do use the search first!

My broken 727 is out and my new build is going smoothly. I ordered a megashifter to replace my star shifter so now I will be able to ratchet up and down the gears- the star is only a detent shifter that can also ratchet up from 1 but not down. I’m planning to swap my tf2 modified valvebody into my new trans but I am looking hard at the tf3 kit. I have a spare 1977 valvebody and the kit is only $100 and a night of tinkering. If it turns out I don’t like shifting all the time I can always throw the tf2 VB back in.

I’m not ready to pull the trigger on the tf3 yet though and the description on the transgo site is kind of vague. Here goes some questions:

Is the tf3 low band apply- engine braking in 1?
Does it have engine braking in 2nd and 3rd as well?

If so does my modest 2500 stall converter work with engine braking? It drives nicely cruising under stall (like 45 mph in 3rd) now, not mushy or underpowered, just smooth and will flash up on the gas. Highway speed is over stall and with 3.21 sure grip most spirited driving happens in 2nd gear anyway. Will the motor still idle under stall off the gas or is it more like a stickshift with constant engine braking and throttle response?

Just trying to get an idea of what I’m in for before floating out a benji and a day of work

Can't answer your question but I've had good conversation on the phone with TG.

If it doesn't then you built the vb wrong
