So you wanna do some big dollar bracket racing

So you wanna do some big dollar bracket racing - 05/20/19 02:01 AM

Me I love them. 3-4 races in one weekend and every round you better be on your game. Usually park the motorhome and kick back Thursday and never leaving the track. Start at 8am and usually race well past 2am. You either love it or stay at home. Mopar racer Michael Beard posted this from his door slammers race this weekend. Check out the reaction times and finish line times on both sides of the screen

Needed to tree him by .001 to pull off a .0007 margin of victory.
That is having your package defined. punkrocka
I don't think I could put anything that tight together with a trunk full of luck.

It's all brutal. Brackets, .90, even class racing. Better have your $#!* together.

Man I remember that year. Our track closed for what seemed like forever but it was worth the downtime. Sorry to hear you made the long tow for what ended up being a canceled race.

The last big money race I went to the announcer was keeping track of .00X packages. 24 of them in the first round and 5 of them lost. hammer

While some of those races are a little steep for this hobby racer, I’d a had a confident entry with my car in its ultra consistent 2016 state. I’d never had a car so predictable.... of course that all changed! laugh2

I usually save a package like that to take out one of my friends in a race that pays $200 to win lol. But can never find it when I sign up for a bigger purse.

I'll race for a can of beer. Sure it would be nice to win some cash, but if that is all this hobby comes down to, I'm out. Want to have fun with my friends first, beat the car like a rented mule, and hope it goes back in the trailer in one piece. THAT is a win in my book.

There’s always Nostalgia Racing. Some of the guys like Doug and a few others are tough and always go rounds but you are more likely to come up against guys that race 3-5 times a year max. Member Steve from Keystone helps to run our Nostalgia series and they Change up the tree to prevent regular bracket hitters from winning every race. Their series has some good sponsors that keep entry prices low and generous payout. Mopar only races bring out lots of 2-3 race a year guys too so there are options out there to increase your odds of going rounds

BIG DOLLAR races ? ..... double O packages ? Try that on the local racers down here ! .....

I was overly optimistic when I first came to Florida.....racing all year - but as was said - the competition is bRuTaL here. I wanted to AT LEAST break even on the costs of racing but that’s RUFF in itself!

Glad I didn’t pour a bunch of $$$ into that 27 roadster I got some time ago. Maybe I’ll jsta sell it or put together jsta CheapO motor for grins at test and tune !

Don't psyche yourself out. Buy NHRATV for one weekend. Look at the reaction times. They are all over the board. SG and SC are better, but lot's of winning packages are pretty soft. There will always be people who can be pretty sharp, but not always. If you can consistently package.025, you'll win a ton of rounds.
For the doubting Thomas's, read this actual reaction time study.

Re: So you wanna do some big dollar bracket racing - 05/22/19 09:44 PM

That is crazy but it doesn't have to be big money bracket racing to see that. Seen passes like that at the local bracket races over the years. But you don't see that happen as much as everyone would like to think. And when it does happen, you were just damn lucky you weren't .001 quicker in RT or ET or your stripe driving or your "unlucky" butt would be strapping the car down in the trailer....

Non of us, and I mean NOBODY.....Sets up for a .000 RT and dead on with a zero......Especially not flat out like the guy in the right lane that got the win light can attest too........ whistling

And if you do, and succeed in doing it consistently, you need to quit your day job lol.

Leigh is correct, there are a lot of really good, consistant racers, but even at high dollar races, there are a LOT of "less than stellar" runs that win rounds. You have to remember, you don't have to whip the whole field of cars, just be better than the one beside you now. Its kinda like the cat that climbs the tree. Cats climb trees all the time, but the only ones you ever hear about is the ones that the fire dept has to climb up and bring down. Just like the racers, you don't hear about the .050 packages, but EVERYBODY hears about the .000 packages!
A few years ago,I was racing in two classes at Bristol (also 2 days ,Sat & Sun, total of 4 races). In those 4 races, there were 4 packages that were .010 or better, and I had 2 of them, but one of the other 2 was against me when I had one of mine.(me .005 dead .004, him .000 dead .006). I left there that weekend with a semi-final finnish to show for it. Some days its rough out there!
