rod bearing & aftermarket rods ? - 05/15/19 04:28 AM

hi all

i have some scat rods, std 440 replacement that the bearing in the cap <cb 527 p bearings .920" wide > does not line up with top half ?

top half looks to be in correct location !

bottom half off set far enough that it sticks out past rod side face ?

sooo two rods on the crank pins lower bearing halfs will prob touch ?

any one else having this prob ?

If they are narrowed bearings there is an upper and lower half. They should be marked on the back.

hi
these are the std width p bearings .920" wide ! not marked upper or lower .

i think the naarrow ones are an h bearing .

just wanted to get the widest to carry the most load for longest life .

might have to trim side on cap half ?

even with narrow bearings i think the last stroker motor i did the halfs did not line up ? just did not stick out as they were narrower ?

't worry about the rod bearing load unless your pushing the motor with a power adder above 700 HP total twocents
I use the smaller and narrower BB Chevy narrow rod bearings in most of my pump gas and drag race Mopar BB stroker motors, no issues so far above 750 HP and 7000+ RPM luck

The main reason to use the narrow bearings is the radius at the edges of the journals on the cranksahft. The radius is increased for strength on aftermarket crankshafts, if you use a standard width bearing, the radius will rub on the edge of the bearings, causing a reduction in rod side clearance, and rubbing metal off the edges of the bearings. As mentioned I think you are getting the upper and lower shells mixed up, not all brands are clearly marked.

hi
no bearing shells cb 527 are able to be used top or bottom !

this is a stock factory crank ! no radius ! stock cranks have a groove at crank pin faces !

with a stock rod and this bearing you can switch halfs and no problem as they have the locating slots in correct place so bearing halfs line up and do not stick out the side !!!!

After rereading your first post on this I would send those rods back to Scat up work shruggy
