D60 set up

When setting up a D60, are you guys using a set up bearing for your carrier, are you pulling the stock carrier bearings on and off or are you making your own set up bearings by honing standard bearings?

I’m getting ready to set mine up and would like to make it as uncomplicated as possible.
I’ve done several forklifts but never a 60.

Whether you buy some set-up bearings or hone a pair of new ones yourself...you're going to want some!

Thanks. I do have a big hyd press and a proper bearing separator. But I think set up bearings will save a lot of time.

Honing bearings so they have a light press fit, so you can get them off without bending them up would make sense. The tool made by Randy's will make life much easier too.

I use honed set up bearings for the carrier. Also polish the pinion at the front bearing location. Takes a few minutes in the lathe. Other wise you'll have to press the pinion out every time until you get the pinion depth and preload shim pack correct.

I use a pair of honed carrier bearings. Definitely makes the job easier.

I honed a set of used carrier bearings inner races and a rear pinion bearing for the Dana 60 and the 742 8 3/4 also up scope
I think I used a brake hone or maybe a very small cylinder hone, those races are hard so it takes some time before they will start to slip on and off wrench
