mechanical fuel inj. nozzles - 04/24/19 11:58 PM

For the mechanical fuel inj. Gurus. The nozzles I have are a Waterman #51= .028 and running methanol. I would like to clean the system out by running race gas through it. Am looking for a ball park size on nozzles to run it on race gas. Any help is appreciated. Thank you guys.

Its not that simple...for clean out just run it til it stumbles then your good. Define "run it on race gas"? just for clean out?

Just to clean out the system so I don't get methanol crystals. Have tried it before as you state, till it blubers. But won't run long enough to clean it out completely.

Does the top end lube for alcohol stop the crystals forming?
If so are you using it?

Yes, I am using the top end lube. But past experience it helps but just prolongs the transaction. If I were running hilborn or another stack injection. I would just run the gas through until it got rich and died. But I'm running an Injectorator and it has float bowls and excellerator pumps. So it just won't run long enough to displace all the methanol. I'm thinking I may just buy some brass and make some nozzles with a 35 to 40% smaller hole. But not a fuzzy feeling trying to drill an .018 hole in 8 pieces.

to answer your question 8ea .028 nozzles are .004926 sq inches
8 ea .020 nozzles are .002513 sq inches
8 ea .019 nozzles are .002268 sq inches

Thank you sr4440, Your figures tell me I could probably go with a .022 to .023 hole. I'm sure it would run long enough to displace the methanol. Thank you.

Assuming you've got a 3-way mechanical fuel shut-off, start it and immediately start pulling back on the shut-off slowly bypassing fuel back to the tank. Idle will increase and temp will too, so don't pull back too far, but 15-20 seconds or so should clean out most gunk buildup, Definitely a trial and error method, better to lean too slowly than too quickly.

BTW the crystals form in old alky, top lube won't help there

Sorry, just saw that you're running the injectorator. The above obviously won't work.... blush

Hi Ronny, did you still have any parts to the milodon hemi block?

No, sorry, sold the last sleeve, stud, etc. everything I could salvage to a member on here, Oyvind Mopar, several years ago. Havn't seen him post in a long time, don't know if he ever got it together or not, or if he is still on here.
