forque thrust wheels - 10/29/18 09:16 PM

I have a 1965 Coronet - 528 Hemi, 4-link, 2875 race weight. 60 foot times 1.26 to 1.34 depending on track prep (NHRA prep vs local). Best e.t. 9.19@144, usually 9.38@139. Currently running Convo pros (12" wide) on the rear with 31x13MT bias slicks. I have a pair of American Torque thrust D 15x14 rear wheels. I'd like to run the Torque thrusts due to the Nostalgia look but I am concerned about the strength of the cast aluminum center section combined with the steel hoop. eventually this will be a 8.90 car. The question is are the Torque thrusts safe and reliable at these ET's/speeds? Any recommendations/experience?

a couple years ago I wanted to run my 64 polara at the meltdown drags, they are super picky about wheels and tires. I liked the torque thrust style wheel, and had the same concerns. I posted on a couple sites and had a few that ran the wheels with no problems. My car has run a best of a 9.64 & 135 3200lbs and a 1.35 60 foot for two years on the torque thrust wheels and so far no issues. And I get a lot of comments on how good the car looks with them.

I run original American 200S on mine. Car has been 1.240/9.00@150. Weighs 3345-3470 depending on ballast. 6 years and 600 passes so far. It runs 1/2"studs which are watched and kept at 110lb/ft torque.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I feel much better now about these wheels. I'll mount 'em and use them for Nostalgia events and use the Convo pros for NHRA Super Street events. The Torque Thrusts sure are heavy. I run 5/8" rear studs
