Only limiters being have to run pump gas (no E85) and not in a rail car or other 2000lb tin can, how would you (or better yet, how HAVE you) build it???

Doesnt have to be deep in the 9's, but a solid pass after pass 9 second ride (in the 1/4 mile of course lol)

Goes without saying but...the lighter the car, the less difficult and expensive it would be on the motor side.

A 3000lb A body, is going to require a HUGE difference in motor compared to a 3700lb b pr e body.

I’m thinking it would be very doable but a project I have zero interest in. My sons stock crank 360 has gone several 6.54’s in the 1/8 (3200 pounds) which would be 10.20-10.30’s in the 1/4. It’s on alcohol but with pump gas compression and even with the less desired open chamber 340 style Edelbrock heads. The small 600 lift roller cam is missing out on the 318 cfm @ .700’lift these heads put out. I would also step up his 4.10 gear slightly in place of his 750 alcohol carb a 1050 dominator would be tried. The heads would be cut for better quench for sure for BP 93. My Duster although a light weight (2820 at the time) easily went 9.80’s on pump gas BP 93 with a mildly ported set of W2 heads and a mild roller cam. A nice ported set of 360-1 heads, ported indy intake, and a nice roller cam packaged in a Stroker engine should be a cake walk on pump junk.

Nope! Just like the original post says, must be pump fuel (not e85) and not a rail car and has to be n/a

Lighter Weight for sure makes things easier on parts, but still curious to hear the combos out there

Are you going to park that motorcycle and get the car back out again?

Hmmmmmm, I dunno about that...I'd need to see more examples that prove it without any power adders

I am hoping to give it a try. I posted about heads in another post and I am really looking for a high 9 second pass. I always run pump gas on my stuff. Flat top 4.10 bore 4" crank. I had open Eddie heads before but now going with the Indy 360-1s and some porting. Roller 6.56 cam and a 950 HP carb.. Oh yea a 8.75 rear end " LOL

Ray(Sixpackgut) ran into the 9.7s I believe on drag week with a 428" Gen III at 3200lbs pump fuel.

Re: 9 sec. Pump gas, N/A small block - 10/27/18 10:00 PM

My 2009 engine masters motor went 9.60s in a street car 140mph 3100lbs 396"
That engine made 660 HP at 7000 rpm
Still running in a D50 down south drives it to the track.

Second car was Brads 422" w9 motor
Was built for spray and we went 9.40s on pump gas 140mph
3150 lbs

I don't feel it's hard to run mid 9s in 2900-3100 lbs car. On pump gas
The pump gas 457" deal I just did should run low 9s

Bingo...Drives it 1000 miles and runs 9.80's on pump gas. He has posted his combo on here, and it runs the number.

Some guys fudge the pump gas a little. 92-93 is readily available to most guys and should be what is used for examples. Heck I think even Dom uses 100 octane now in his Dart. Then comes track altitude as we all know the coastal states pump out some great numbers especially in the Fall.

I was at 3215 when I ran those numbers. It was 1.36 / 6.09 / 9.46@142.
Drove it all over and ran 9.40/9.50s at Atco, Cecil, Maple Grove in the summer heat. Would slow the car down to race 10.0 index.

Mine is 394 ci. 10.9 comp. 360-2 Indy heads , roller cam. Made 662 hp and 533 tq. On 91 octane. It is the motor Brett Miller mentioned in his post.
So far 1.33 60ft. 6.21 @ 110 in the 1/8. Driving to track on drag radials and mufflers. Still has more in it. Needs alot of work on carburetor.

Re: 9 sec. Pump gas, N/A small block - 10/28/18 12:53 PM

in street tune we done a 436 ci made 600 ftlb and 798hp with the headers used in the car which are a bit small at I only twisted it to 7000 rpm!
Nice happy little w9 436 cube small block 98 pump gas here at 3550 lbs a bit heavier than most of you guys runs 9.7 @ 140 with a bit more sorting to do

How much does your ride weigh in at?
Pittsburgh racers car is a great example of how a serious diet can help. If your street driving as well, then perhaps Lexan glass replacement would be a bit far, your call, I won’t bother going that far.
There is a good stickey at FABO here —> https://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/threads/post-your-9second-and-quicker-combos-here.89036/

Cut weight (you can get quite far over time if you are willing to pay for it without ending up with a tincan) where you can do it is the best thing to do.
And that goes both for yourself and the car. Ok admitedly i dont have a clue if you got some exessbody weight but anyway.

Lol my car is getting fatter. I fired my skinny driver after I wrecked my Daytona and took over driving duties. Sold the fiberglass doors and went to stock doors with wind up windows, alternator, RacePak, R3 block, and a few other goodies. It sure is an easy car to go Racing with.
