Main dowel for "World" block, source? - 10/20/18 08:36 PM

I'm working with a used block that has a damaged dowel on one of the mains. Looks like 5/8 od. Anyone have a source other than Mitchell?

It's a hollow cylinder shape. (It's not a pin).

Check McMaster-Carr.

Good idea, I will do McMaster again, my first shot was fruitless.

Was thinking it could possibly be pretty generic pioneer dowel or something like that.

Can you post a picture. If you know the OD, ID and length I bet you can find it. I doubt that some engineer designed a custom dowel for that application but you never know. Some wizard at Chrysler designed different throttle cables and throttle springs year after year even though they didn't really need them.

Got it. It's just a chunk of thin Wall tubing doctored up a bit.
I was looking in the wrong place. Thx for sending me back there fbs!

Thanks! If the tubing from mc master doesn't work, that's a backup.

Damn. Another AndyF post that made me LOL!

Quoted for truth for sure.

This type of activity still goes on today at the OEMs, there are still lots of jobs with almost comical narrow focus of responsibility.

Waiting for the mc master 5/8 thinwall tubing, as long as the od is within spec it should do the trick.

Did you measure them?
They should be oversize
Unless the tube you get is slip fit it may be tough to install without damaging

The originals are a thin tube with a very light press fit.
Those would be .012" press fit which is too much.
I just have to hope the tube that shows up is in spec and not on the low side.

This will be super simple when I get a minute. Just needs maybe .001 polished off (optional, just to be same as the existing pieces), cut to length, bevel the ends, install.

Make some extras and set up a service part number for them so you can find them in your garage 10 years from now when you need more!

Right, now that I've got enough to make a whole set, temptation is to replace them all for really no reason.
