Project 470 Finished!!!!! Dyno Results

Project 470 Finished!!!!! Dyno Results - 10/20/18 05:47 AM

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted any progress on project 470 ci however today the 470 was on the dyno and made 603 horsepower and a real nice flat torque curve with 627 ft lbs all happening under 6000 RPM!! Until Moparts becomes Apple friendly, I refuse to post any pictures so don’t ask me to post the dyno sheets.
My customer was very happy with the results. Not bad for a engine with a smallish hyd rolller and a dual plane intake. The Thumper 950 carb from Dominic rocked out of the box!!!!!
Next project will be another 505 RB with a set of Trick flow 270’s bolted on!!! Stay tuned and hopefully by then I can kick back and post away with picks of the build from my IPad.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the girdle with the aluminum caps did not blow up and fail as some hoped for on Moparts and......... drum roll please........ the beehive springs operated flawlessly with the Hughes rocker arms......... NEXT!

Just dropped off a 400 block yesterday to get machined, using BB Chevy H beam rods,440source 3.915 stroke crank, custom pistons and being built for Trick Flow heads.

Is there a post somewhere with the specs on yours?

What’s the trouble posting pictures? I have been posting some from my iPhone, pretty straight forward.

That's making some good power. I'd be interested in hearing the specifics of the build, as well.

Congrats, is this not for one of your vehicles?

Posting pics is easy. I use several different devices apple, android, pc, whatever, it all works the same. The main problem is most phones are set to take huge pics these says and Moparts seems to prefer 640x480.....

This build was for a friend. I have tried to resize the pictures with little to no luck. Other car forums automatically resize the pictures you post. When I built my first 505 ci in 2014 posting pictures on Moparts from my phones was easy. Not anymore.

Yep gotta jump through a few flaming rings of fire to post 'em these days, it seems. Holler if you need help.
Well sounds like a really nice engine. Victors are plenty viable, that's for sure.

Sorry if I missed a previous thread but I'd like to hear specs as well. Planning my own 470" with Trick Flow 240s, hydraulic roller and a Performer RPM intake shooting for 600 hp.

I like the idea of the beehive springs. Were they the recommended spring or did you just determine your own parameters?
If I can post pics from my Samsung Galaxy J3, I'm sure that there is a fairly established path to do it from your Apple.

Nice build! Years back I built a 470 with standard port Indy SR and 255@.050 solid ft, m1 and 950 carb. Made almost identical power, 605 /590 iirc. Loved that engine and got my 4000lb wagon to run 11.0's, and street driven everywhere. I'm guessing the standard port SR and victors are pretty similar.

For street builds I only use beehives or conicals. The guys at PAC springs have done more testing on these types of springs than anybody else so if some want to stay stuck in the 70’s with a inefficient, heavy and unnecessary high pressured dual springs be my guest.

Re: Project 470 Finished!!!!! Dyno Results - 10/20/18 05:30 PM

Looks like a nice solid build. I think I'm going to sell the 470 that I ran last year since I have a few too many engines sitting on stands. They sure are great engines.

In an alternate universe the Chrysler engineers put a 470 six pack into production in 1970 and ate the Chevy big block for lunch.

I've never driven or rode in a 500+ ci Mopar but these 470's scream and make very respectable power...........

What headers did you run on the dyno, were they 2" primary? 2" can be tough for non race-car stuff.

Also, how extensive was the porting on the intake? Did you take the divider out? Did you use a spacer?

Re: Project 470 Finished!!!!! Dyno Results - 10/20/18 07:19 PM

What is the benefit of the 470 over a 451?

My guess is:
19 cubes, slightly lighter piston and slightly longer stroke.

Is that it or is their something more I'm missing?

Thanks.

The headers are TTI 2” headers. According to TTI, they will bolt right it to the 70 roadrunner. The intake was port matched and the divider was taken down to 3/4”. I also blended back all of the turns and pulled a lot of metal out just under the carb opening. A half inch 4 hole spacer was used.

Both the 451 and the 470 are great combos. Always remember there is no substitute for cubic inches. More air more fuel and you can still rev like a small block with a 470

Wait till you read this.

Take your pictures, email them to yourself and when you hit send it will give you 3 or 4 choices on what size to send them,I hit the second smallest(maybe medium size) and pull them out of the email and they post here then.

Re: Project 470 Finished!!!!! Dyno Results - 10/21/18 05:11 AM

My build to a T,just got the RPM and dropped the 400 block off at the machine shop, told him spec the pistons to work with the 240s.
