Sliders Install

Sliders Install - 08/27/18 02:30 PM

I've finished my own homemade sliders to install on My car. At same time I'm changing from OEM leaf spring to Calvert Monoleafs...

So I couldn't check the ride height with the new spring before install sliders... I've measured with the car in jack stands and installed sliders. Attached a picture of the sliders installed. The car was in the jack stands with que rear tires and rear suspension unloaded.

My question is: I've a travel enough when the car will launch?

Slider was installed too far forward, you want the eye behind the center point of the slider at rest, almost the reverse of what you have.

Re: Sliders Install - 08/27/18 03:00 PM

Do you think that I'll have problem of the slider hit on the front at launch?

Re: Sliders Install - 08/27/18 03:09 PM

I always tack the slider on so I can check the
movement when its on the ground
EDIT
a lot of springs will be different due to the
amount of flex they have

It's going to be close. Put some grease on the slider, make a couple of hits and see what you have.

Re: Sliders Install - 08/27/18 03:17 PM

When I put the car at ride height the slider position was on the middle. So I will install my GoPro the make a movie during a Street test to check the slider behavior on the launch.

I'll have race on the weekend So I need to check this quicky.. lol

Re: Sliders Install - 08/27/18 03:20 PM

You want the bearing close to the rear of the slider at rest with full weight on it, maybe an inch from the back to give it travel to the front on launch

Re: Sliders Install - 08/27/18 03:31 PM

If your near the middle now you need to move
them forward... just dont let them hit the back
side.. you dont need much clearance on most springs

Thanks Man!!! Based on your video I can see that the sliders don't has so long moviment. I shouldn't have any problem with them. I really appreciate your help.

Re: Sliders Install - 08/27/18 03:58 PM

I really wouldn't like to rework because I welded them in a lot of points in body. lol

Re: Sliders Install - 08/27/18 04:04 PM

Calvert says:

"At ride height the center of the rear spring eye should be between 60-75 percent back"

Good luck!

. Can you get her down on the ground and give us a picture of the slider location at right height

Re: Sliders Install - 08/28/18 01:48 AM

As mentioned id get it to full weight and sit it down, and your springs will settle a bit.

Id do all that and although your not going to be to the likes of many you may be ok.

Im a bit the other way with a full cell and if im running two bottles on my street racer, but if I run only 5 gallons im about 85% back and have never had an issue.

I set my whole car up with still using the oem shackles so I positioned the sliders eye where the shackle eye would of been and had to make no other alterations

According to what I've been told, the slider should be moved forward. But if you have a GoPro I'd run it and see if it bottoms out... Sounds like you already have it welded in place.

How old are your springs? I think you will be ok as they will settle a bit more, esp if they are claverts springs.

.. like most have said they should have been mounted a little further Forward. But I think you will be fine. You can rub some grease on the slider to see how far the The roller moves .I can tell you with a quality shock you will get less separation and less movement in the rear. With my setup I get less than 3/4 inch of movement on the roller now.

whats better the slider or a shackle? street/strip car

Re: Sliders Install - 08/30/18 01:06 PM

Springs are brand new calvert split monoleafs.

Re: Sliders Install - 08/30/18 01:20 PM

I agree with you... Maybe moving 1" forward the slider will be perfect. I'm running with Viking DA shocks that should provide less separation (I hope). I will rub some grease and make a movie with my GoPro camera to check the clearance and separation. I see that Calvert spring has less separation than OEM springs So I hope that slider slot will have clearance enough to keept welded in the same place. Let's check it out soon.. punkrocka

Thanks Man!

Re: Sliders Install - 08/30/18 01:40 PM

just drill a new hole 1.5"back in the rear spring segment for the centering bolt.

Re: Sliders Install - 08/30/18 02:34 PM

I have the Calvert Racing Sliders, and originally set them at 70% toward the back, and due to setteling they are now 80% back. So if your springs are new, I would take that into consideration.

Calvert does not recommend theirs for the street.

They will clunk and clang on the street(with
a decent exhaust you will hear them).. anything
that isnt rubber isolated will make some noise..
if you use them they need to be cleaned and lubed
on a regular basis.. same as ladder bars or any
other parts that are steel on steel
