Indy Aluminum Timing Chain Cover

Indy Aluminum Timing Chain Cover - 06/13/18 06:42 PM

I am interested in comments as to value for the Indy aluminum timing chain cover for RB blocks. Is it any good or not? I'm interested in sealing up motor for vacuum pump use and for the moment have a 'fail' for stamped steel sheetmetal versions of the timing chain cover. OH,.. any comments as to surprises with fit-up are appreciated as well. This is along the lines of: Won't work with ATI Dampers or Crank Triggers or Timing Pointers, tight with cam buttons, etc. Thanks in Advance.

Needs a specific Ati balancer hub or a spacer.

Any idea which ATI part number? I have an ATI # 917122E Balancer. Is that the one that will fit with the Indy timing chain cover? I think I'll call Indy and see if they'll confirm the cover works with My ATI Balancer? shruggy. Thanks.

Indy says: "Works With ATI 917122E Balancers". Good up ... Now,...is It gonna seal better than the sheetmetal versions? Probably have to just get one and find out? wrench

I love mine and it’s been on several different engines that ran mid 8 - to high 8 second passes but I can’t help you out about vacuum pump use because I never ran one. They are made pretty heavy duty or at least they used to be

I use a billet timing cover when I want something that seals tight, fits a standard damper, accepts a cam button, and fits under a water pump.

AR Engineering makes a really great one- Mancini Racing sells them. The one I've got looks too good to hide behind the water pump and pulleys.

Guys, Thanks for the information. I like the AR Engineering unit as well and I know It is high quality. Even for a moment I was considering a Milodon gear drive unit too but in the end, I only need vacuum seal and I don't see Myself unzipping all the stuff in front of the 'adjustable' cam setting window for a few less milliseconds of ET. Poor track prep can steal more than 'optimal' cam setting gain in My eyes. For now, I can't justify the cost of the upscale timing covers. Yes, they offer more utility. Wheels Up!
