Think about this, back in 1968 the Hemi SS cars were going 10.30?

That is an eye opener, tires and torque converters have both come a long way since then.

A guy I know held the SS/GA record around the early 1970s with a 440-6 Cuda that ran around 10.40s. Things sure have gone over the top since then. My 1971 Hemi Challenger ran in MP and they ran high 9s in the early 70s. Prostocks were running 9.40s to 9.75s in 1971. Rules and Technology has sure changed over the years. That was a real nice drag race and that Dart sure did not waste anything going down the track.

since when did the 68-70 340's become a good combo again? I seem to recall NHRA slapping too much factor on them years ago.

Wondering the same thing myself but it was several years ago when they started running better. My guess is they lowered the HP on them. It would be nice to know for sure.

Great run !!! I was hoping somebody would post the run as I didn't see it on Sunday. That Dart is impressive! There have been good strong running 340 cars around you just don't hear about them. How about Jerry Hatch from Maine making a nine second run in his D/SA 340 Duster last year! Some say it's because NHRA is allowing a LD 340 intake in Stock others say the difference between it and a cast iron is minimal. There's a pretty good local Stock racer who's Camaro ran the same class as 340 cars he was running brackets with it last Fall and I noticed he changed classes, he said he couldn't run with the Mopars, he knows I m a Mopar guy but he was serious.

There are a bunch of small block stockers here in Vegas. One of them used to own that Duster....yes..it has a LD340 and it has Eddy Aluminum heads are now legal in many stock classes. And it was reported that it had an Aftermarket block...Ritter...Roller Rockers are legal....It all just money

I believe it on the blocks trying to find a good old one that sonics well has to be painstaking.
Great to see the small blocks running so well and being competitive. Theres some nice Mopar stockers out there in the West I see the pictures on Classracer. Although not a Stocker my favorite is Darren Smiths S/S Dart. but then again i m partial to Darts.
