8.75 to Dana 60 swap - 12/15/17 12:19 AM

Hey guys, thinking of ordering a Strange S60 to replace the 8.75 rear in my '70 Cuda. Are the factory units the same width, drum face to drum face?, my springs are moved inboard, so I know I'll have to handle that, just want to make sure my wheel/tire combo still fits or doesn't sit too far in with the Dana if I order it stock length.
I know driveshaft length is different etc,

Thanks!

Why don't you just tell them what length you want ?!?

I haven't measured it as of yet as its in storage at the moment, thought if the two were the same length from the factory, could just them tell them stock length. They are closed at the moment, so thought I would ask guys here, maybe someone went thru this.

A friend tried to order the S60 from Strange to replace the stock 8-3/4 in his Duster. They wanted him to measure everything (fill out the spec sheet) he said it was stock, uncut, even springs not moved, still a hassle. Called Moser, they said no problem, they know what size it is, sent out in two days, completely set up ready to go. He told them 5.12 gear, 5/8 studs, spool and 1350 yoke.

X2 on Moser.
I just put an order in to Moser, but mine will take a bit longer because the ring & pinion will be lightened and micro-finished. Not in a real big hurry, especially considering the holidays.

If you're sure the rear is OEM width, it shouldn't be a problem. Just specify that you'd like the spring pads shipped loose.

Moser 60 built to order.

Is the driveshaft shorter or longer for the Dana 60

Shorter by approximately 1", if I remember correctly. But it's best to check everything in place.

If you go with a strange60 and your springs are moved in make sure to tell them how many inches for each side.

curious... does the Moser 60 have side adjusters like the Strange S60? That alone was worth the price of admission in my book.

I agree on calling Cass (Dr.Diff). http://www.doctordiff.com/

....AND, I would seriously consider just going a 9" since you are upgrading across the board.

Ordering a Mopar spec Strange-60/Dana-60 is easy on my web-site:

Stock/custom dimensions for popular rearends are easy to determine using my calculator:

Moser 60s don't have the side adjusters.
My Moser 60 was the correct E body width as ordered back in 2003. Don't think Strange was even making one back then. I like the side adjusters on the Strange case, but that's the only good thing about Strange's products IMO.

Moser made my friend a S60 with the side adjusters, summer before last.

Moser made a S60? So Moser built a rear from a Strange case? Or are you saying that Moser's case now has side adjusters? They didn't use to, mine doesn't...but mine was bought back in 2003 or 2004, so things may have changed w/o my knowledge.

WRT chassis settings: AFAIK the 60 still weighs more than the 8.75, which means slightly more spring and shock to control it. Try it as-is first, you may be lucky.
There may also be a difference between the two as to exactly where the shock mounts: horizontal or vertical distance from the lower eye to the axle center. This affects how much leverage the shock has on axle rotation.

Moser can buy the S60s too, then resale, Strange don't care who buys them.

OK, that's what I was wondering b/c the M60 doesn't have side adjusters. up
