Reverse Pattern Slap Stick

Reverse Pattern Slap Stick - 12/03/17 02:42 PM

At one time I remember reading that someone had ground one of the tabs of a factory e-body shifter to make it work with a reverse pattern shifter. Basically you pulled it back for second without having to push the button and then for third you would push the button. I have removed the console in my car and I can’t figure out which tab to grind off? Can anyone tell me or engine have a picture?

Thanks in advance!

i did this mod but it wasn't a great success. i pulled the slapstik & fitted a B&M Hammer shifter. it works much better & i even have a chick race my car & she has zero problems now

Dvw,

I have seen those but they were out stock for a long time. I might give it a try. Anyone had any luck with them?

Rebel,

I have a pro-ratchet shifter waiting to go if I can’t make this work. I’m not sure how it will fit though? Seems awfully large to fit in the hole.

The one in my buddy's Charger works flawlessly.

We have the Cope plate on our reverse manual Challenger with the stock slap stick, it works perfectly. I've raced with it many times.

Well I ordered up a plate today. Thanks for all the advice. Seems people have had good luck so why not give it a try!

Thanks.

When you say you did this mod, are you speaking of using the shift-r-gate from Cope, or did you massage your stock shifter gate? Or, did you use the original shift-r-gate product from Duncan Motorsports? I am asking because I used the one from Duncan and it worked well except for the fact the plate was made of aluminum and it galled very easily. Once it galled it wasn't very good after that until you removed it and polished the burrs. Then it would work again for a while and burr up again. I think if it was made of steel it would have been fine.
