Quick tips ? - 11/07/17 04:01 AM

Hey guys I'm taking my Barracuda to the local track this Wednesday night, Wednesdays is a off street play night.
The car has no cage or harness so 11.00 is the cut off. plan is to run some half tracks and compare it to some of my other time slips to look for improvement, then put one out the back door.
Car has been 10.18 before and best MPH was 135 after a dyno tune 2 months ago in bad 3800ft air.
Air should be around 700-1000 ft. Plan is to up jetting a little, run 18lb in the 275 Pro radials and see how we go.
Car has never had a great 60', think best was a 1.60.
Any tips to help me run a 9 ? smile Might only have one crack at it.

Sounds like it really won’t matter much, but the roll bar cutoff is 11.50, not 11.00. With absolutely no safety equipment in a car you believe to be capable of going 9’s; my tip is: Be Careful! This will be interesting to see, I can’t immagine a car that 60’s in 1.60 running low 10’s. Is it a turbo car?

That much power and no cage is kind of ridiculous. That car probably wants to bend up and spit out the windshield. At Sonoma I believe it's 11.49 roll bar cut off.

In Aus its quicker than 11.00 under ANDRA sanction , faster than 10.50 under IHRA sanction

Yeah it is 11.00 here.
N/A 528 wedge, no turbo, just have not managed to get it out of the hole quick, 108mph at the 660'.

Yes Dave I know it's not right but don't really want to cage it, it will not be out there much, or again after this Wednesday, then I will have to make up my mind.

How much do you value your life ? no safety equipment in a car with that sort of performance is asking for trouble.

Tape any body gaps etc. And the deepest stage you can do on your full pass.

You could also try closing off the grill , even taping it closed with cardboard .

Test to 1000 ft and hit the brake. Once the 1000 ft number is good go for your number.

Shallow staged = low ET

If you can get a low 60' time you should be good. Make some passes to 1000' and if the launch feels particularly good on any pass, go for it!

Your at the beach, you walk just into the water the water is shallow, keep walking the water gets deeper?Just swap Car for walking, beach for drag strip and water for the staging beams.is it backwards on land pretty sure its not.

bupboh

deep stage good reaction slower et , shallow stage faster et slower reaction
you get a running start with shallow stage

Interesting analogy...... but the staging as shallow as possible will yield the fastest ET; and it’s generally a substantial difference.

Re: Quick tips ? - 11/08/17 03:58 AM

Tips to pick up ET:
Light weight oil
Cold engine temp
Adjust brakes for least amount of drag
Switch from bias to radial tires
Carb spacers?
Cold air intake
Remove any excess weight, (seats, spare tire, anything?)

Good Luck on your quest

Ozy, what rear suspension are you running? I bought a set of used 275 pro's for $100, they work great with my stock leaf springs and Rancho shocks, went 1.51 Saturday footbraking at about 2000 RPM's. My car runs 10.60's so you're probably hitting the tires with a lot more power which is causing your 60 foot problem.

Also, please get a roll bar in that car, way too quick to be messing around. I said for 4 years I'd never put one in my street car but a couple months ago I got the bug to see what the car would do, went to a track and ripped off a 10.88 on the first pass. I took it home and my buddy put a simple 6-point street bar in it. Second outing it went 10.69 and I felt a lot more comfortable going 125mph with a bar and 5 point harness.

It's still easy to get in and out of the car for my wife and I.

Yes thank you guys, I will probably end up doing a cage for it, my son and I have made a few molly cages and have been in the steel fabrication game most of our working lives.
Did not go to the track last night as the weather and air was rubbish, no good aiming for a PB if you have bad air.
Maybe i'll cage it and get there before the end of the season ( about 6 months ) and then the air will be mint.

GY3,, Stunning interior.

ProSport,, not sure what leaf springs they are but it has Caltrac bars and cheap Competition Eng shocks, also am running a set of 275 M/T Pro Radials.
Has a 4500 convertor.
