Shift linkage interchange BB to SB?

Shift linkage interchange BB to SB? - 10/24/17 05:29 PM

I posted this in the regular Q&A section, but got no response, so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

What's in the pic is a '72 model 727 from behind a 440 out of a big C body New Yorker or Imperial, can't remember which.

Will these linkage arms for the valvebody (shifter and kickdown) interchange w/ a small block?
I have a '71 Demon 340 that has a 904 trans (ex race car) that I'm putting back close to stock, but keeping the 904. I need to hook up the factory column shifter and kickdown linkage, but all my extra stuff is for big blocks.
So I'd like to use these on the 904 if they are the same? Just the 2 pieces that attach to the top of the VB on the trans. I know they'll physically bolt onto the 904 w/ no problems, the valvebodies interchange, but not sure if they will put the linkage in the correct location. The actual linkage for the shifter and kickdown...I think I have all that stuff for the SB A body.

I can tell you that when I took out the 273/904 engine and trans and swapped in the 572 Hemi and 727 trans in the 67 Satellite, I used the trans shifter linkage are off the 904 and it worked just fine on the 727 trans.

The car was a floor shift/console car.

Sounds good to me, thanks for the reply! Guess I'll just put em on, get the trans in, and see what it looks like. This stuff is just a lot easier to work on before it's in the car.

Over the years, I have never heard of linkage being different due to engine size. If there is any difference at all, I'm pretty sure you can adjust it out on the top slide for the kickdown. The shifter arm would only be dependent on the shifter linkage on the column, not the engine. But again, they were always transmission specific, not engine or even vehicle.
