Junk yard crank trigger?

Junk yard crank trigger? - 10/22/17 11:39 PM

I built a crank trigger some years ago for a 440 but in the end I had to buy an aftermarket "brain" to be able to set the parameters. I don't remember where I found it or the manufacturer and I don't care because it was expensive and I like to be cheap.
Is it possible to find something useable on a junk yard? Wheel and sensor you can buy anywhere, but the rest?
I'm not going EFI, I just want an excellent ignition that sparks exactly where it should

go find a ford edis setup. they use 36-1 trigger wheels as well as good sensor that can be rigged up and mounted just about on any engine. if not check out our mopar specific crank trigger kits for small block and big blocks $275 and you don't have to spend day at the junkyard and fabbing parts that may not work.

I don't think you'll find a crank trigger for a Mopar in a wrecking yard. If you are using a MSD ignition then the only thing you really need to buy is the pickup. If you are handy with tools you could fabricate the mount an the trigger wheel. You need to find the right magnets and install them with the correct pole orientation.

If you want a MSD setup for cheap I have a used wheel and sensor that I don't need anymore. You would need to fabricate your own mount. I've switched most of my stuff over to EFI so I have some left over MSD crank trigger stuff sitting around.

Just ordered a Megajolt Lite https://wiki.autosportlabs.com/MegaJolt_Lite_Jr.
and then a Ford Edis-8 module complete with coils on ebay for $75. A friend had a trigger wheel for $20 so all I have to buy now is the pickup.

I will get a fully programmable crank trigger ignition for less than $300 plus a little fabrication!

Maybe I have missed something but I don't see any advantages with MSD.

I will get fully adjustable timing curve, rev limit and also vacuum advance. Even datalogging is possible.
