Seen a couple of these run down the track....What is the difference between clutchless or clutch assisted?

What configuration can be used for street/strip? Is it a 4+1 where 5th is an OD?

I know little about them but I think you row all 5 gears on the track meaning no OD. They seem like a pretty wicked trans, there was several of them on drag week this year. But holy crap they are expensive.

Our gf5r is clutch assisted with the first four gears being pretty steep and 5th is (always) 1:1. We run a 3.54 gear in the dana to make it highway friendly, especially with a 28-30" tire. Without getting into specifics the SLR ends up about 11.5 and gears 1-4 work out to make the 3.54 effectively a 4.10. Overdrive without the overdive trans if you will. Looking forward to getting it on the road soon.

The difference between the two are the sliders and face plates on 1st thru 4th gears. For street/strip you would use clutch assisted.
On the G-force 5th gear locks the main shaft straight thru 1 : 1, the countershaft is just along for the ride so no od.
Also Liberty has a similar transmission.

THe clutch assist trans needs to be (or should be) unloaded to release it from the gear it is in during the shift process. THis is because of the angle cut on the sides of the dogs, so the torque is holding the slider to the gear. If you yank hard enuff, you can get it to shift, but it is really hard on parts. YOu can unload it with the clutch, or by lifting the throttle, or with an ignition interrupt. These work OK on the street.

I have no experience with a clutchless, but here is how it was explained to me: The clutchless trans has split sliders, with the 2 halves splined together on the same hub so their rpm is always equal, but they are able to move back and forth independently. So when you pull a gear, only 1/2 of the slider moves until it engages the next gear. That instantly speeds up the main shaft (and thus the previous gear) kicking the other half of the slider out of engagement. These are not streetable. ANything less than a full power shift can hang up the 2nd half of the slider. If both are engaged at once, it scatters the trans. Plus they don't stay in gear by themselves unless under power.

That pricing can't be correct. It shows stuff has pretty much doubled since I bought my GF4A a couple years back. I think it's in Australian dollars?!

Gforce usually has a lot of trade-ins too. It's worthwhile to call they might have a good used unit on the shelf.

That's Australian dollars, 1 AUD = USD0.72, so 9000 Australian = 6480 US$
Of course shipping etc to down under adds to that. I think if you contact GForce, it will be considerably less. Like Andre says, I think they often have refurbished units.

Many people that have them love them. From what I see, they are work well and easy to work on., Just too many gears for me.
