FI-Tech Go EFI 4 Problems

FI-Tech Go EFI 4 Problems - 08/30/17 10:14 AM

Finally I got all hooked up. I use a gastank from Tanksinc. with an internal fuelpump.
Yesterday I started the engine the first time with the FI Tech Go EFI 4.
Starting was a little hard. The idle is way to low and it smokes like it is running too rich.
I turned in the screw on the throttle body as discribed. I tried several times. one time it ran smoothly with no smoke.
The throttle response was very quick. But then idle went down to 450 rpm and it started to smoke again.

Now I don´t know what to do.
The engine is a 505 cui.

I guess I have to do some calibration.
Below you can see pics of the controller. There are so many parameters you can change that I don´t know about.
Maybe that is the reason.

Also I have attached the white cable (to ignition) to the ballast resistor as you can see in the first pic. Is that okay?

Just got done installing one of these systems on a customers car. There is very little information out there on the tuning side, you kinda have to fumble through it. Hook up a fuel pressure gauge and check the fuel pressure. The regulator that came with the tanks unit (albeit for a chevy) was junk and could not bypass enough fuel. It needs to see a pretty consistent 50-60psi (58psi is spec.). What is your IAC Step's at warm idle?

You also cannot use a ballast resistor ignition system if you are using the Fitech to control ignition.

Add in more timing also.. 10* wont make it
wave

Right now I´m not using the timing control.

Okay. I will get me a fuel pressure gauge to check this.

Vacuum or exhaust leaks will cause it to run rich (O2 sensor is seeing more air so is dumping more fuel). Mine was doing that and my plugs were fouled out pretty quickly. Do you have Facebook? There is a good group of people to help on there. I ran my white wire right to the battery while I figure out the system. I did have it hooked to my electric choke wire but will probably hook it up to a switch inside the will then go to the battery, will be a good killswitch also.

Are you getting any fault codes? What ignition set up do you have?

I've had the Go EFI 8 on my 493" for 18 months, 5-6k miles and dozens of passes.

What steps have you gone through? I'll say the instructions aren't the greatest, but it really isn't that complicated either...

I just checked voltage to see what circuits had 12V wih key on and while cranking. I used the same circuit that was going to my MSD box IIRC.

If you aren't controlling the timing, then the timing settings don't matter.

What are the specs on your cam?
Overlap will cause the O2 sensor to see excess O2 and it will add fuel
What ignition system are you running? What is your timing set at?
I have the FITech controlling timing feeding a MSD 6AL. Cranking is 20 deg adv, idle is 30 deg.
How do you have the tank/regulator set up?
I am running full return using the FITech regulator. It will support a 340LPH pump, but not more.

I would leave most of the settings alone until you get some drive time

The unit has an IAC solenoid to control idle, but getting the "idle screws" adjusted correctly is important. You want the IAC steps between 6-10 with the engine hot, in gear. Adjust the idle screw to achieve this. to get more air while cranking, you have to increase the "cranking IAC multiplier"

once you get a little further I can maybe try to help a bit more, but my system fired up no problem (although I have had other problems...haha)
