Which mini starter?

Which mini starter? - 08/20/17 12:49 AM

Seen this question in the past. Need a mini starter for a 484 hemi with 10.8 compression. Don't feel like buying a high dollar unit if the stock ones work fine. I thought I read in the past that some guys were using a starter from a small block Dodge Dakota. What do you guys recommend? Thanks

The list from 590Challenger uses a 17181 model at Autozone. Mkdart used a 17677 model. Anyone know the difference?

All those apps I listed should be the exact same starter. I have no idea why Auto zone and Mkdart have different part numbers, industry number is a 17466, Chrysler 53005984, Denso 128000-7810, 128000-7812. You can buy good new ones on ebay, it such a good design even the China imports work great. I had mine in for years and I hammer it with 24 Volts

Napa here with 16 volts. Carry a spare in the trailer that I've never used. I bought a Speedmaster off of e-bay for the Dart and it's great too.

Re: Which mini starter? - 08/24/17 11:27 PM

When I bought that starter.I was not sure witch one
to ask for.
I told them give me one for a 02 Dakota 5.9
17677 is the number that comes up.

This starter is physically bigger than the
Mancini mini I replaced.

Before I did the starter,I installed a firm feel
sector support kit that supports the pitman
arm.

I was able to remove the mancini starter no
problem. But I had to drop the drag link to
get the auto zone starter on.

This is a small block W/TTI step headers(W2)
stick shift.

Re: Which mini starter? - 08/25/17 12:21 AM

I picked up a 17466 from Advance Auto. The tech/archive post above states that it is 21 mm shorter than the others. At the bottom of the motor there is only 3/8" clearance from the 2 1/8 hemi headers from TTI. That is the tightest point on the install. So I go to mount on the header and pull the gaskets out of the box and find out they are for a 340. They shipped me the wrong ones with the hemi headers. I'll never finish the car at this rate.
