Mp stroker crank

Mp stroker crank - 07/25/17 05:09 PM

How are the older Mopar performance forged stroker cranks? I'm thinking about contacting a guy who has on with a set of Crower rods. I just want to make sure it's worth my time.

Ran one for years in a 13 to 1 422 w5 motor with no issues at all. Beat on it a bunch

I guess I should mention it's for a b block. I'm sure it doesn't matter.

Depends how old the kit is. I think a long time ago they were made in the US, maybe Moldex or someone like that. Then they switched to SCAT as the supplier.

The guys who ran MP for years didn't really care about quality or fit and finish so it is a crap shoot. I've never heard anything bad about the MP cranks other than the fact that they are heavy and that they use a Mopar size rod journal.

Mopar Performance refused to accept the fact that the 2.200 journal worked just fine. They continued to use the gigantic Mopar rod journal up until the very end. But if it is a complete rotating assembly and it fits in your block then it should be fine. Don't pay more than Molnar or 440Source prices though. MP used to charge a ton for the stroker cranks but they aren't worth what they charged. It isn't like they were selling Callies or Winbergs or something like that. It is most likely just a reboxed SCAT crank.

Ive used alot of the MP cranks, mainly because for some reason I could find them here and there alot cheaper then then most china cranks.

Never an issue.

Ebay is full of good deals (at least on small blocks) with mixed strokes like a 340 main with a 360 stroke and the likes.

Discussed in a previous thread ... 99% sure it's the same crank/rods.

Everyone passed on it and it's still out there like a worm on a Mopar fishing hook. I'm sure the rods would be just fine but again the 2.375" journals are very 1990's. If you could get the crank and rods for ... $800, I'd go for it. Last time I looked, they dropped from $1500 to $1400 so we're not close.

For $900 you can get this crank: http://store.440source.com/Ultralight-Crankshaft/productinfo/40042506800-6-LW/ I'm doing this 440 Source crank in my next 400 block build. For $2400, you can get a whole balanced stroker kit including this crank from 440 Source.

I can understand a guy wanting to sell parts for what they paid for them, but sometimes stuff goes down in value. Typewriters aren't worth much anymore even if you paid $1000 for new one back in the 80's.
