Glad to hear you will be making out again. Should run well I would think. Hopefully we can make it out there tomorrow.

Why such a steep gear for the combo?

Re: New Combo Finally Headed to the Track - 07/08/17 02:19 PM

Well... it was a rough first outing. Had a bunch of electrical issues including a starter that went bad. Also, found out the hard way that either the oil filter wasn't tight enough or some how loosened itself coming out of the water box. That is also when the started decided to quit. So... now it's back to the shop. Need to put a new starter on, make sure things are okay with the motor and sort some battery issues. I need to invest in a good battery that will handle the big cube / big compression. Hopefully back out in two weeks.

Al, thanks for coming out. It was nice meeting you and your wife. Wish you could have seen a little more of a running car.

Viper, the gear in the car is what was with the old combo. I figure I'll need to reduce once I figure this combo out a bit. For now I'm compensating with a 14.5 x 33 good year with lots of rollout.

For what it's worth she was a monster in the water box on it's first burnout.

Al, nothing major. The motor is back to running again. The new starter went right on and is working fine. Next to figure out of temp issue. A fellow racers suggested restricting the water flow a bit. Currently we have no thermostat and the theory is the passing thru the radiator too fast. Plan is to go back out Friday the 21st.

Re: New Combo Finally Headed to the Track (Update) - 08/24/17 10:48 PM

Well.. the weather is looking great for tomorrow and back we go to the track to try and make some passes. The fixes / upgrades included new ground wire from the battery to the bell housing, a rebuild starter, a new battery, a new drive shaft (turns out the old one was bent from the last motor destruction), an addition of a water restrictor to slow the coolant down and a new rocker arm (ended up breaking one) found it when we adjusted the valves. Numbers to come.....
