Lexan install - 02/22/09 03:26 PM

started installing the lexan. if these pics don't work i'll have to resort to plan B.

Re: Lexan install - 02/22/09 03:29 PM

started gluing down the 3/8x3/4" rubber gasket. man that stuff is expensive.

Re: Lexan install - 02/22/09 03:32 PM

close up of the gasket, this will make the lexan fit flush with the body line and seal the window.

Re: Lexan install - 02/22/09 03:41 PM

your car is looking great Tony....

I used a circular saw with fine teeth when I cut my Lexan...

Re: Lexan install - 02/22/09 05:16 PM

Tony, your car looks very nice

I cut my lexan in a sheet metal cutter ( which can cut 2m long sheets).

If you want real nice edges, you can sand papper the edges with a long board, like 3M.

Very nice Tony... super clean lookin
If you want a nice edge on the lexan after you cut
it, sand with a block then hit it with a propane
torch, it'll make it clear again

Very very nice. I like the mirrors, wipers, antanna and clean no wire engine compartment. I'm doing similar stuff.

Re: Lexan install - 02/22/09 09:03 PM

Jamie, its super easy, after sanding to get the edge
nice and straight you pass the torch across it just
so that it clears up(its slightly melting it) plus
it puts a minor radius on both edges... just looks
alot nicer and gives it a finished look. Test on a
piece of scrap to see how much time you need to spend
on it
EDIT
If you hold the torch square to the edge it will
radius both sides at once

They ripped you off. Next time, check mcmaster.com. You can buy a 50 foot roll of that exact size of rubber strip for less than $10.00 plus shipping. That's my tip of the day.

yea it kind of looks that way.I bought it through a friend. we got enough for 3 cars.sounds like I paid for them

You can also order not only from McMaster-Carr or Grainger for the rubber but also CIR(California Industrial Rubber)...they have great prices and service....plus they EVEN carry the Polycarbonate sheeting.

www.novuspolish.com I've always bought it directly from them....you'll only need the #2 and #1 unless the cat slides down your windows...LOL......stuff is magic...I've saved many a cloudy lexan window that customers left there car outside for too long. .....it also restores those foggy headlight lens on newer cars...
