Who sells Griner trans brake solenoid - 03/10/17 02:06 AM

I have been trying to find a new electric solenoid for my 904 Griner transbrake. Griner's phone is disconnected. Who else sells or deals for Griner? Thanks, Matt

I would call Hughs or John Cope at CRT to see if they can help you out.

what is it with Grinner Brakes? i'm down under & Grinner brakes are rare, i only know 2 racers with them & both have had solenoid issues. Yet whenever someone wants a brake recommendation everyone says Grinner? Im kinda glad i have A&A but was thinking of trying one of John Copes own brand next build. anyone using his on here?

Yes J-body, like the one on the left. CRT doesn't have any, and he said good luck getting hold of Griner. CRT said to try tranz-act, but was unsure of there quality. Was told TCI was the same, but the tech. at TCI said they were not....... still looking.

They were damn good brakes Rebel.... that's why.

Just curious Vdust.... no continuity on solenoid? i looked at the piece I have in the second pict and it's definitely something made in house so finding a replacement might be difficult as you may well know. Funny thing is that I know this brake worked in the trans it came out of, but I hit it with 12 volts this am and was not greeted to a "snap" that I thought I would see/hear.

I've got a 904 with the newer style Griner in it (like the first pict). Might have to pull the pan and compare. Currently I'm running a Pro Trans brake in my Duster.

It appears to be dead, I have tried powering it up on the bench, nothing at all. Nothing in or out. no need to pull yours apart

I have one of John's brakes but haven't ran it yet. Waiting on a pan from Steff's and the weather.

Re: Who sells Griner trans brake solenoid - 03/10/17 06:37 PM

Friend of mine runs a CRT brake. So far no complaints....

While I expected some kind of solenoid movement on the Griner, I'm wondering if fluid psi against it works into the equation. Like I said, the trans this brake was in worked fine.

See if you can disassemble the solenoid from the assembly to get a number off it to purchase the solenoid only.

The assembly that the solenoid is in is just a modified Governor body out of a 727 trans (clever use of spare parts LOL).

Call Pro Trans.

Re: Who sells Griner trans brake solenoid - 03/10/17 08:04 PM

Used the same Griner for over 20 years with no problem if I hit the button when the car is not running the solenoid will only engage once (click) because I think it needs the trans running to reset the solenoid. If I am not mistaken Griner uses the line pressure to release the brake so that maybe why you do not hear it engage. good luck

tranzact uses the same solenoid...got one brake in use that I bought back in 1993...quality must be pretty good.

Re: Who sells Griner trans brake solenoid - 03/10/17 09:44 PM

Thanks for the replies. After the trans was refreshed, I had the car running, had all the forward gears, but put it in N and hit the trans button for reverse, and nothing. Got checking, and have power to the solenoid, but solenoid has no response, pulled valve body, removed solenoid, bench tested. Solenoid does not push out, or pull in when I have it extended. Looks like I will be sending the valve body to Tranzact, for Joe is the only one who says he can fix it. Fingers crossed.
