I wonder how long before someone"ll want to change the rules?

Re: Leaf spring record holder - 02/24/17 01:02 AM

Why would they? There are two races a year where this class is run and they are both at SGMP. Digby has made it a personal goal to have the fastest leaf car and he does. There are a couple other cars that can challenge, they just weren't ready or were broken. The rules are fine.

The problem, if there is one, is that few other classes require stock suspension and the fact that leaf cars are few anyway. There are some in X275, but they are underpowered to compete with Digby. A few others will have to take it as serious as they do, to challenge.

Brandon Fugler went 4.30s several years ago on leafs with a big Pro-Charger and Jason Richards went 30s with a nitrous combo but both switched their cars over when classes stopped requiring stock type rear suspension. So the Digby team can be challenged, will just have to see it anyone chooses to do so.

At other races, the car is legal for Limited Drag Radial, which is the class they were running at Bradenton when they set the leaf record. The LDR radial is a 4.15 I believe

They got their act together for sure. Not many wasted passes and nice learning curve.

They have a good "team". Jason has supplied a nice car, with good parts. Lyle is an excellent driver and Pete Harrell is doing the tuning. That's a nice collection of talent

I would think that it wouldn't take long for the grumbling to start when someone has the field covered by .25-.3 seconds and 15-20 mph. I've been wrong before, just ask my wife.

That's Ron Rhoades and while his car does have leaf springs, the car is built for X275. That's a small block car with a single stage of nitrous that runs 4.40s.
