Piston Thermal Coating

considering coating the pistons for my build. gen 3 hemi under bewst. intercooled. 9:1 comp. what do you guys think about thermal coating. this gen 3 and bewst will be new to me so there will be a learning curve thinking about it for insurance but would it be a waste ? its a reverse dome forged piston with side skirts already coated.

I do, cost in the big picture is not major, don't see how it could hurt, the big "but" for me, how long/well does it last?

I hard anodized mine.

A buddy of mine is building a turbo LS for his teen age son to drag race and he Cerakoted the tops of the pistons, chambers and valves. It hasn't ran yet so I don't know how it'll hold up.

I would do something for a coating on that piston. Scary close relief for boost.

Sharp edges are NOT your friend...

yeah i was looking at that and thinking detonation city...

there are some awfully thin bits on the top of that piston, is it a shelf or custom?

I will be coating the dome & skirts this time around,,,,,,,,,,

Maybe that top ring land needs to be a little further down away from the valve relief

My 572 hemi pistons were spec'd for a heavy dose of nitrous and got the domes ceramic coated by Diamond. It's the tan or gold colored coating. Can't say much for it as they've been that way since new. Haven't hurt one yet.

Maybe a little Seems the top Moly ring failed,,,,,,

I thought moly rings and boost don't mix cause boost knocks the moly coating off them.....

You think I was surprised when the Moly was knocked off and the ring failed

Are you sure you don't want some tool steel top rings for boost
