Custom Trailer Package

Custom Trailer Package - 02/12/17 06:06 PM

Who do you guys like for custom trailers?

Looking for somthing to carry all my crap in and be able to stay overnight. I need 18ft for the car and 6ft for the four wheeler....My trailer measures 23'6" inside, and with the Cuda it all just fits. Kinda giving up on an RV or Toterhome as an option...Too expensive, and in most cases not able to pull the weight.

Looking for somthing in the $25k range that can haul my car and four wheeler and has a bathroom/shower and generator door and an escape door. Had some quotes, and most will not put an escape door in or if they do quote it, the trailer is $41k!

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/12/17 06:12 PM

So far I recieved quotes from Becker Custom trailers, probably the nicest ones I have seen and Millennium Trailers...Waco Bill refuses to put an escape door in....I just don't seem to be able to get everything to line up.

There has to be a trick to this.

I just order a custom United 26 footer from Bob Jones RV here in Pa and should be picking it up hopefully by late March. I am picking it up in Indiana to save a few bucks. I have 2 acres of hilly property so I couldn't go bigger plus I haul with a class A motorhome on long weekends. Check out United Trailers on their website.

Hello Dracula. I see your from NY. Have you heard of Mike olsefski. He may be able to help you. Also, have you raced at skyview? Your car and trailer look familiar. They used to have a pretty good program up there. Been rough the last couple years.

I know a sales guy (Ed Stevens) at Advantage Trailers in Chicago, they build custom trailers for bikes and cars. No idea if their prices are in line with Becker or Millenium though. They're currently at the Chicago motorcycle show displaying some of their builds.

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/12/17 09:09 PM

Have you looked for a used one? I found a 2014 36' goose neck with an escape door and an aftermarket shower & toilet installed that is in almost like new condition. I really think I stole it for way less then what you have been quoted on a new one. It's a Stealth brand so look into those. I actually found mine on Craigslist and it was listed under campers because that what the guy used it for. He hauled a bike and a 4 wheeler in it and never a car!

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/12/17 09:50 PM

Yes....And none of them with a shower/bathroom had an escape door...

Closest I found is in the link below..and its $29k, and 2ft longer than I need, and he ain't budging on price..I can get a brand new one at Waco Bills for the same price, and he won't put in an escape door either...

I understand the escape door makes it easier to get out but why not get a winch? You can winch the car in and out and not have to worry about being inside of it. The escape door is just something else to have problems and is another possible entry point for thieves.

I would second Mike Olsefski if your in the area I have bought several trailers from him over the past 15 years great guy. Also try Octane trailers in MI I have a Nash the people that built mine now have Octane. I have no complaints with my trailer other than it is too big for me now.

Cause I have one now, and it makes loaded and unloading awesome. Especially when it starts to rain....I only winch the car when its broken.

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/13/17 12:11 AM

I kicked around getting the escape door but most of my car are to low to clear the fenders anyway and I'm not shoemakering lift boards on the floor. I climb out of the wind up window in my black duster and the other two I will winch in. I kinda feel that a door in the middle of a car trailer kinda weakens it but that's my thinking.

My GTX is right on the edge of being too low to have a side door, and no way the Road Runner will clear. I almost always winch the car in. It's just easier on the clutch also.

Try these guys. Escape door $350. A people on YB had good things to say about them. I don't think they do the living quarters but it may be cheaper to buy the shell you want and do a sleeping quarters yourself.

Not a fan of the escape door either. I don't think I ever had anything in my trailer that the door would open over the fenderwell anyway. I have always used a winch

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/13/17 08:45 AM

Being a one man race team I've been winching all my race cars onto trucks and into and out of my enclosed race car trailers since the early 1990s up twocents
This is the United States of America so you can do it any way you like, currently, for the next 4 to 8 yrs whistling devil stirthepot
As far as a new race trailer I would like to have what your talking about, 32 to 38 ft. gooseneck or fifth wheel with a bathroom, bed, frig and eating and sitting area under 14,000 Lbs. loaded going down the road to the races up

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/13/17 03:05 PM

I'd say 25K buys you a newer used Vintage or Continental Cargo, or an older ATC, etc. I bought a used trailer awhile back and went through that dilemma. Buy a newer lower/midline trailer or an older high line. I went with the latter and picked up an older ATC all aluminum trailer with LQ's. Haven't regretted it, as the higher line trailers build quality is far superior.

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/13/17 03:43 PM

Off topic but if you do have a winch in your trailer and have the front button or wired remote look into one of these. Several guys on Yellowbullet recommended this and I love it. At the touch of a button you can run your winch from anywhere around the trailer.

I use a remote from harbor freight on our winch. It works awesome. I can stand anywhere within about 50ft and run the winch.

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/13/17 07:35 PM

I just picked up a 32 foot bumper pull, it has a small kitchen and bath in it. It came from an insurance auction because it got 6 inches of water in it from a flood down south somewhere. It was way less then 1/2 price of new and it's only 3 years old. Salvage title don't bother me when I can save 15 grand. 😎

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/14/17 12:35 AM

In 2004 I practically stole a custom Exiss 40 ft. They sold me the aluminum to line the inside.
Came home mounted my onan 7k camper genset. Air compressor and ran air and electric throughout. Built my divider with sliding door and a big tool box at samsclub. Ordered water tanks and built the LQ myself. Never completely finished trim around bunk. All said an done had $35k in it. The garage is/was as nice as it gets. The lq needs work. The head board and panelling never got finished. Paneling needs redoing.

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/14/17 02:31 PM

It pays to have the patience to shop around. I have friends who own Atlantic Coast Trailer Sales in Mass. See if they can help you. (I wish they were closer to me in FL. frown )

Atlantic Coast Trailers

Has anyone said "WHY" they won't put an escape door in? I can see how it might weaken the structure & flex if not done right. But it shouldn't be an issue if properly reinforced. I love my escape door in my 2006 Pace. I don't need it at the races to get in and out, but the regular door is on the opposite side of the house.

I always figure on getting something 2' longer than you think you need.

If you have door clearance issues, I know a long time racer who had a raise ramp inside the trailer which also allowed more room under the car to work on it! Does raise the center of gravity though.

In 2004 I ordered a Millenium (made by Vintage) to the specs I wanted, 32' LQ trailer cost $24K. I am sure they are more by now, but they have specials all the time.

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/15/17 08:06 PM

IMO looks at Intech trailers. Basically same as an ATC. Becker does nice stuff but they are really proud of their trailers. IMO shop brands NOT price. Not all makes are equal and when you start looking at them closer you can see the differences in construction materials and fit and finish.

FWIW I have purchased my last two trailers from R&M Trialers and been treated very well. Great pricing and service. I have used Cargomate he last two times and am looking at Intech and ATC this time. Wish I could swing Goldrush or T&E though

I have never seen an Intech in person but they sure look nice in the photos. Sides are incredibly straight.

Re: Custom Trailer Package - 02/16/17 09:33 PM

Sold my Haulmark and bought an Intech. Best trailer I've ever had. Trailer prices usually reflect customization, aluminum/steel thickness, and general overall quality.

A friend purchased an Intech and I thought he was crazy for what he spent. I went and looked at it and bought an Intech 5 months later and spent $10k more than him. Best quality I've ever seen and 100% custom. Every single bolt, bolt, support everything is aluminum. My 38' weighes 4,600 lbs. empty. My 40' Haulmark weighed 8,900 empty.

Intech and ATC are similar in build and quality. Both are built in the same town. Hard to beat either one.
