Anyone going to Lights Out 8? - 02/11/17 04:02 PM

Just checking to see if anyone is headed for Georgia next weekend? I'll be with a fellow Kevin Merrit in a MoTie Duster running in the 632 class.

No, I wish! I'll be watching the live feed.

Is this the Duster?

this is the car I will be with. Runs 7.50's with no power adders. I think he's a bit slow for the field but it'll be fun.

What's the combo?

It's GM powered. I don't know a whole lot about the combo. I do know it has no power adders.

From what I've heard about the crowd there, I'll stay home. I have no desire to park miles down the road (literally), walk all the way to the gate and then get told they aren't letting anymore people in. Not to mention the down time b/t races and the weather that seems to plague Duck's races. I can see all the fast mustangs I want at my local tracks anyway. laugh2

Your local track has 3 second radial cars, on a routine basis?

Gone the last three years, never had any rain delays in the spring. Action packed with all the radial classes running, Sunday is the first day you have big pauses in action and only in latter rounds. They closed the gate once on a Saturday night because there were 40,000 people there already, and if you bought a weekend pass the two days before you could still get in. I live next to Cecil and go to yellowbullet race for the weekend and it doesn't come close to this for fast cars. Hands down the best races all year.

3s? Not normally, but there are some of the fastest small tire cars in the country around here. The 3 sec cars you speak of...Stevie Fast, frequents tracks around here testing and running shootouts. There's a 28/275 race w/ heavy hitters atleast every other weekend around here.

I'm sure the racing is great and all, but dealing w/ the crowd kills it for me.
I have friends that go every year, some as spectators, some to race. Last fall they all called it the mustang nationals. Fast or not, I need some variety to keep me interested. Especially when the cars are so fast and have so much money invested that it's hard for the typical racer to relate anymore.

Open comp and 6.0 index have the best variety of cars. There certainly is not a shortage of Mustangs there!!
I usually go when Im off, which be only Friday this go round.
My drive is only 80 miles, shorter than yours by far, so its easier for me to put up with crowds and walking!!

Re: Anyone going to Lights Out 8? - 02/14/17 06:06 AM

This is the BEST small tire show on the planet. Crowded? yes.....aggravating at times? yes. But worth the price of admission. If you went ONE time you would probably never miss another.

Re: Anyone going to Lights Out 8? - 02/14/17 07:34 PM

Part of the problem with people on the starting line at this track is lack of seating. They are constantly adding bleachers, but still don't have near enough. The bleachers on both sides will be packed and people 4 and 5 deep on the fence. You simply can't see........so guys with the right arm bands will mosey toward the starting line to try and see. It's never THAT many people, but a starting line is a small space, so a few looks like a lot. RvW is when the problem is, because every car and every pair could be something exciting, so everyone in the lanes moves forward. They added some smaller VIP bleachers last year on either side of track and that really helped for fall race and security was much tighter, as far as being in that area. They really need a large "racers and crew only" grandstand that can be accessed from the lanes. This would help immensely. The spring race is the first BIG race of the year and it will be packed again, as racers shoot for THIS race to be ready and spectators do the same.

Some talk about having to park a long way off and walk........this isn't the Saturday night heads up race at your local track. This is like a national event at an NHRA track. When was the last time you got to park close at one of those? There are SO many race cars here, that normal spectator lots are full of race cars. Sure can't park THEM down the road

What does "Radial VS The World" mean? Aren't they all on radials?
Posted By: 1967dartgt

Re: Anyone going to Lights Out 8? - 02/17/17 04:15 PM

[quote=Dave Hall]What does "Radial VS The World" mean? Aren't they all on radials? [/quot

When Donald Long started this race eight years ago radial racing was done with "stock suspension style cars". Used your factory locations for your suspension. So Donald said if you bring your pro mod and bolt on a tire of same size slick or radial the radial car will win. You had a few people try it on slicks but soon realized the radial tire was faster if you can get it to hook and 60ft. So he invented this class saying radial cars against the world ( or any other car), it now has basically become a pro mod class on radials now.

Something is bent or flexing under the rear of the car. Since we put the new 765 in last fall, it's either knocking the tire off, or driving hard left and trying to power stand.

I have put a LOT more bar in it, to try and push nose down.....didn't work. In the past anti-roll adjustments fixed the going left, but not now. I have resorted to dialing in rear steer to try and make it go straight. It's 60 footing hard but we can't keep the nose down. For the next pass, it has 65lbs on the nose and we already had 56% on the nose as it was. I have moved the kits around and have 3 turns of rear steer in it. THAT isn't right. This will be the last race for the stock style G-body suspension. It's going in the chassis shop next week to back half it, Tired of fighting with it...........Mark Menscer had the best comment......"man, that thing is just pissed off"...........LOL!!!! Even trying to pussyfoot it to get it down, it's going 1.06 and 1.07 60foots with the nose 8" high

Last I saw Goss was #1 Qaulifier in X275 with a 4.38. He had to drive it, it picked the front wheels up and carried them out a ways, so I would assume there is some more in there.

Heck my small block duster will go 6.00 so I know that would make for some boring stuff after watching 3 and 4 second passes car after car. Betting the concession stand and bathroom lines are very long. Lol

Albrecht won RvW, Marinis X275 and Scotty G won pro 275, although he now resides in Florida. As mentioned, there are other classes, actually at least 10, maybe 11. Leaf wasn't mentioned and they had a no-time class, but that may be the SB grudge class

Monte I couldn't believe you guys finally hooked and then lost by a thousandth lol, tough weekend. Henderson had him beat to the 60 and the 330. Looked good on that pass.

Re: Anyone going to Lights Out 8? - 02/22/17 07:56 PM

My 2 cents on this event after being there from Thursday thru Sunday.... I think Monte gave almost the perfect summary. I would say Thursday and Friday were my favorite days because the crowds were smaller. Saturday the bleachers were full, people were 4 deep at the fence and the pits were a madhouse. With all that said... I saw probably the fastest cars I've ever seen and also realized how slow my car is... lol. People were very friendly and I think I made some new friends. The track and it's staff are awesome. If you're going to see Mopars you'll be disappointed there were only about 10 there. But, if you are a drag racing fan I recommend going at least once. I will most likely be going back next year.

The car just won't work anymore. We have more motor than car. The stockish stuff in the rear just won't cut it anymore. I can make the car go down the track every time, it's just not fast enough. The window between being slow, knocking the tire off, or trying to stand up is tiny. The .31 pass against Pooch was a junk pass really. It was slow in 60ft(1.09) was borderline of having front too high, even with the power moved WAY out. I KNOW what to do to make it 60ft 1.06, but it goes out and pushes the front up. I KNOW what to do to make it sixty foot 1.10 and run low .30s or high .20s like it did against Pooch, but that won't get it done. All the knocked off tire passes were attempts to find SOMETHING it would like. It likes NOTHING......LOL!!!

We actually had Rick Jones come over and look at the car. It's next stop is likely going to be at Quarter-Max to have the back half done. It's a REALLY good car from the main hoop forward and Rick agreed with that, but the back half has got to be redone. Rick also agreed it's just not working right now. The setup and nose weight it has, just shouldn't be required to make a decent pass

It went 174 on that pass with a mild setup just to get it down. We have easy teen power, just need a better car. This is the same car that we were "first in the 4s" for a nitrous car. We have hit several plateaus where it became obvious the car needed some work.....this is just the next one. But like I told Chad, this is pretty much the last one. After this, the car is only a longer wheelbase, struts and a swoopy nose from being a full on Pro-Mod.

With the setup I have, nearly a 1/2 inch of rear steer, he should be fighting the car going right. Instead it is STILL slightly driving left. I have never had to do that before, so SOMETHING is moving in the car and getting worse. Personally I think it is trying to rip the top bars out of it and is flexing all that structure

3 out of 4 winners were from Long Island!
Albrecht won RvW, Marinis X275 and Scotty G won pro 275, although he now resides in Florida. As mentioned, there are other classes, actually at least 10, maybe 11. Leaf wasn't mentioned and they had a no-time class, but that may be the SB grudge class

How could I have forgotten leaf and Lyle!! Damn I am bad...
