Fuel Cell Leak Help

Fuel Cell Leak Help - 02/05/17 03:31 PM

I've found a pin hole size leak on my fuel cell. It's an aluminum cell. I prefer not to pull it out and clean it etc to have it welded. Any ideas? The fuel system is a return style with a vent so there isn't pressure on the tank. Any one had success with an epoxy sealer?

Thanks!

sand it,clean it,JB weld it.I built up a spot on a 727 case and drilled and tapped it for 1/8 pipe plug to adjust line pressure.been like that 7 years.

I see JB weld has one specifically for fuel tanks. Maybe I will give that a try. Do you think I should do it on the inside, outside or both?

I would scuff up the area on the outside and apply from there. I don't think that the JB weld should sit in the fuel if it doesn't have to.

What about a small screw and gasket type washer? Or drain it and use a small bolt and nut and a rubber washer?

There is a 2 part putty type gas tank epoxy that works very well. I think Permatex makes it,any of the auto parts stores will have it.

I used a two part five minute epoxy on the carb. on my old airplane to fix a crack in the upper body to get home from a FFA curtesy inspection in 1992, it was still on there working good in 2007 when it got total from hail damage on the ground shruggy
I now use it all the time to work inside or outsides of carbs. where needed up

Call and have Fuel Safe make a bladder to fit inside it. Safer and fixes the issue.

Where is the leak.. if its in a weld you can
try the epoxy stuff... or have it welded so
its right... if its not near a weld I would
look closer as to whats going on
