harland sharp stud kit - 01/24/17 08:29 PM

any idea what stud kit the Harland sharp rocker kit for victor head takes or if there is one available? Directions say to use your existing bolts, I have none.

Call ARP, they'll know exactly what you need.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/24/17 09:25 PM

I would mock up the rocker shafts on the heads and use a dial caliper to determine each hole depth from the hold downs and go from there. I have Harland Sharps 1.6 on my Eddy Victor M.W. heads and I'm almost positive I used several different lengths ARP 3/8 studs to mount them shruggy Make sure you have at least 3/8 thread engagement on the stud in the head, I bottomed mine out and then use a harden 3/8 washer on the hold downs between the nut and the hold downs up

Figure out what length you need and then buy them from Summit. I don't know of anyone makes a stud kit with ARP hardware. Hughes sells rocker arm stud kits but I don't think they use ARP parts.

I bought the Hughes brand take everyone advice and measure to find the lengths you need

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 12:36 AM

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 01:40 AM

am going thru the same issue. the hughes stud kit does use ARP hardware. I feel the thread engagement is inadequate. for maximum stud strength thread engagement must be at least stud diameter. these victor heads have had problems with splitting the stands. hughes offers an upgrade on rocker stand bolts where they lengthen the helicoil inserts in the head. problem is the studs don't allow for the deeper thread engagement. I have talked to ARP to see if they will offer studs with the longer threads, they said they have received request for this but had no plans to actually make some. don't have a solution yet

No problem at all. I have M.E.Martin fasteners by me and also Macho tool that carry Grade 8 studs so maybe check in your area.

This is the one Trick flow lists. I think it is ARP hardware, I'll have to look in the garage. I ordered these for the Trickflow heads with the recommended HS rockers, but have not started putting that engine together yet.

Sorry, Just noticed you said Victor head, not trick flow..

I'll have to look at what I ordered for the Victor heads, I think the two (per side, 4 total) long studs were either 3-1/4" or 3-1/2", and I know the three short (per side) studs were 3" because that is the one I broke (Dorman Grade 8) when summit did not list the 3" long ARP studs. I think these were on the longer side to make installing the shafts easier, but may need a taller valve cover.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 03:39 AM

I just looked at the Trick flow kit, and all the studs are 2-1/2" long, no short/long, but they changed the location of the shaft oiling hole in their heads.

I also just recalled that I am using the aluminum max wedge style shaft hold downs on my victor heads (after milling off the original stands), so that is why my rocker hold down studs would be longer than if using the standard HS hold downs.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 04:21 AM

some of the 5 studs are longer if you want to stud all 5 holdowns but my heads only use 2 studs,3 bolts

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 04:37 AM

Maybe i should just order stock replace and go from there.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 04:32 PM

The studs are 3 1/4" long,The fine, course threads are 3/4" long so 3/4" of threads into the head.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 05:29 PM

I used 3.5" studs with 1" of thread on each end. They came from McMaster-Carr.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 07:50 PM

Ok, so i can order all 10 studs 3 1/4 - 3 1/2? Thanks guys

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 08:36 PM

Edelbrock, 440 source and arp have no kits for this. Edel said 3 1/4 long. Would there be any issues ordering all 10 studs 3 1/4 length? Thanks for all your help

Yes 3 of the 5 studs are like 1/2" shorter

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 08:50 PM

The shorter bolt is 1 3/4" to the bolt head so a 2 1/4 to 2 1/2" would be good I think

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/25/17 08:52 PM

I posted this awhile back - I used these on a set of INDY EZ-1 heads

You can order ARP stuff and make your own kit - these are Summit part numbers - I just used these for my HS rockers

ARP-300-8332 12 PT NUTS 10PC comes in a package
ARP-AJ2500-1B STUD 3/8 X 2.500 – you need 6 of these
ARP-AJ3250-1B SHAFT STUD – 3/8 x 3.25 you need 4 of these

Thanks guys. That makes it real easy.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/26/17 12:41 AM

Looks like about $100. Gonna check with my local nut and bolt store first. Might be able to do better with just grade 8 stuff.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/26/17 04:14 AM

More threads into the heads are better, especially with the Victors.
Posted By: mopar dave

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/26/17 04:51 AM

I will be sure at least 1" of thread. How much thread is there in those bolt holes?
Posted By: mopar dave

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/30/17 05:33 PM

my local nut and bolt store did not have the lengths I needed nor did McMaster carr. looks like i'll have to step up to the pay window with the ARP's.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/30/17 06:28 PM

had to order from carshop performance parts. jegs and summit didn't have the 3 1/4 studs. all good with parts on the way.

Re: harland sharp stud kit - 01/30/17 08:39 PM

I looked up my McMaster order and unfortunately they no longer sell either of the following:

Line Product Ordered Shipped Balance Price Total
90281A636 Black-Oxide Steel Adjusting and Positioning Stud, 3/8"-16 Thread, 3" L Overall, 1" and 1" Thread Lengths

90281A638 Black-Oxide Steel Adjusting and Positioning Stud, 3/8"-16 Thread, 3-1/2" L Overall, 1-1/4" & 1-1/4" Thread Lgs.

I'm sure somebody still carries them if you search the hardware sites.

Maybe this will help you find something that will work:
