Strongly thinking about Double Beadlocks

Strongly thinking about Double Beadlocks - 01/05/17 12:04 AM

Since last year our 68 Dart has transformed into a full racecar and now is not realistically able to be on the street anymore, I am seriously contemplating going to double beadlocks.
I am just a ET chaser and have no desire to run points or be in any series as of now.
But my question is, will I lose ET by going from a 15 x 12 rear wheel to a double bead lock wheel since I'm adding a bunch of weight to the wheel?
Is there any cons to a double beadlock other than than the high cost of them
Spending a ton of money on beadlocks only to go slower.
Any input on this since I found a pair locally that I want to buy.

He weight is a con as well. They will make the wheel a fair amount heavier. If this is a moderately powered car that alone may slow it down a fair bit. If it is a big power car you may fine little difference.

I would just glue them. We've been 1.13 in x275 trim at 3200lbs with my buddies radial car with just high tac.

They do look cool, and make changing tires so much easier.

Keep in mind the inner diameter of the DBL rim in comparison to your drums or brake caliper.

How much were those bead locks Hemitis?
Those are very nice.

I wouldn't do it if I was you. There aren't many pro's. As Al said they are heavy. You need to recheck the torque on the bolts. Beadlock tires can be a lot heavier too. You are just caught up in the moment. Take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning. The money is best spent on something else.

They are not that much heavier. No you do NOT have to constantly check the torque on the bolts and there is no such thing as a bead lock specific tire

This is the current Goodyear Drag Catalog. The beadlock tires are noted.

You don't have to constantly check the torque on anything but my beadlock rings would get loose pretty quick. I was properly torquing them with the recommended lube.

The tire itself is not a special designed tire for beadlocks, but that size it is required because beadlocks anchor the tire better then any rim screw or high tack.

As for your bolts coming loose, what brand beadlocks do you have? Some are better then others.

I have double bead locks with drums, had to machine a little off the ridge on the drum to clear the inner bead lock. My car is slow but my wheels look better than yours. Weight wise if you compare apples to apples [ same rim with and without ] yes the bead locks are heavier. Thats the only way you can compare . Different manufacturer, different style all weigh different . Mount / dismount your own tires, it's fairly easy.

Champion wheels had some you can get single and double and sfi safe for up to 199mph, alot cheaper then welds. It's championbillet.com if you want to check them out.

+1 just to not have to deal with the tire shop people. I'm either going double beadlock or buying my own tire machine... maybe both.

Re: Strongly thinking about Double Beadlocks - 02/20/17 10:37 PM

A lot of responses say they are heavy, maybe? 5-7#
And you dont need them on a slow car 8.99-10.00 sub 150 mph car

If you have the funds do what you want.

No messing around with rim screws drilling holes in perfectly good rims/tires.

No glue.

You no longer have to deal with the tire store people mounting dismounting and answering stupid questions.

The Best Part :The tire will be more stable and not spin on the rim ever.
