RB A body headers

RB A body headers - 01/02/17 11:59 PM

Getting ready to install my 588" RB in my 68 cuda. It has Indy 572-13 heads. It also has a Hemi Denny coil over front end. It will also have a motor plate. Do not want fenderwell or partial fenderwells. Would TTI headers be my best choice? Looking for the most room to work on the car.

I don't believe there is a "correct" raised exhaust port/RB engine/A body header offered from TTI, although with your aftermarket front end parts the B/E body version might fit.

a custom header would be money well spent.... "IF" there is someone near you to do the task.

Does anybody have any reviews for chris acor at acors performance? he is pretty close to me, so maybe thinking about a set of custom stainless headers and full exhaust.

Since your in Virginia Beach Mike Balf Racecars is by far the best place to go locally. He and a few if his guys make some badass stainless headers for most of the fast drag cars around.

Forget about working on the car without cutting and drilling holes in things for access. Fenderwalls are your best bet for still being able to work on the car. That big engine is going to need some Abby enormous pipes!

with how pricey they are, an option would be a weld up header kit from speedway motors or others. the SM one is cheap & all you would need is a chop saw and someone who is a good welder & some trial & error fitment.

I have TTIs on a 512 RB in a Duster, Indy EZ heads; spark plug access on right side for #s 2, 4 & 6 is pretty tough and the car doesn't have a motor plate. Can't imagine accessing #s 2 & 4 if it had a plate.

Why do you think having a front motor plate would make getting to those spark plugs worse confused shruggy
I've used both stock BB A body motor mounts with several different brands of headers and stock A body exhaust manifolds and I've had BB A body race and street cars with front motor plate and getting to the plugs, especially on the passenger side with either is not easy or really hard to me confused The front motor plate allows you to set up the crankshaft height and center line to your preferences up Not so with stock type mounts or adapter mounts shruggy
I was spoiled on the first three BB A body cars that I had and raced, they all had Hooker fender well headers on them, changing plugs was a breeze whistling

I imagine he goes under the 2-4 header from the front to change plugs, depending on plate used = difficulty.

Yep... I have Hedman B-body headers on my lowdeck A-body with Andy's motor plate, which makes for easier plug access than the OP's combo, and
I can only reach #2 and #4 from under the car. #6 is simply impossible without the 1-1/2" access hole I drilled in the inner fender sawzall

It's been a long time since I ran Hooker fenderwells with an RB A-body but don't remember thinking that plug access was "a breeze" even back then wink

I have these for my dart 572-13 heads indy rb block and alterkation coil over front suspension and motor plate.

Header #440-214
2-1/4" 572-13 STEP HEADERS

Some of the lower tubes hit the cross bolts for the mains and had to be dinged. The #7 tube had to be dinged for the steering shaft. The old upper shock mount on the passenger side had to be cut out on the corner for the #2 tube that goes over #4 and #6 tubes.

I never had to use anything other than a spark plug socket and or a 5/8 or 13/16 box end wrench to remove them, all the fenderwell header pipes went up and back towards the cut out in the inner fenderwells on both the Hookers and Hedman BB A body headers thumbs scope

Yup, Cab & Cudaman - gotta reach in from the front to access 2 & 4 with the TTIs.

Re: RB A body headers - 01/05/17 01:34 AM

I'm on the list for some custom stainless steel headers.should be next month. Actually building the whole exhaust in stainless. Going with 2 1/4" with a 4"collector.

My engine is out of the car right now as I had my heads milled. Do you want pics of them out of the car or when its together? I do not think I took any with these headers in the car. My previous set was on my old motor which was a low deck 556 with tti 2" to 2 1/8".
