I'm looking at getting some valves for my BB Victor Max Wedge. I'm wanting to get 2.00" installed height. What length valves are you running? Thanks for the help!

It's not easy with the stock length valves, but can be done.
If you use longer valves, you will likely have to re-locate the rocker arm shaft location?

On the last set of Victors, we got valve spring locators from PAC that were machined down from 0.060" thick, to 0.030" thick, and use +0.100 valve spring retainers. My cylinder head guy assembled these, so I don't have the exact measurements. I think all the parts (springs, locators, retainers were from PAC?) FWIW, We used the PAC 1326 valve springs too.

Thanks, I've read through those articles and they have some very good info. But I'm still looking to see if any knows what length valves they are running. I know I have to work some magic to get that 2" installed height.

I have used the stock Victor 5.375" length .250" tip exhaust valve and a 5.344" intake .250" tip to get 2.00" or more installed height and go right at .800" lift. I do recommend relocating the rocker shaft.

If you wanted to go to a longer vlave that would help the geometry some however you are still likely to run into retainer to rocker clearance if the shaft is not relocated away from the valves. Ferrera has longer valves for -1' that could be made to work. +.100 would probably get you to .800 lift. Don't forget to account for the slightly shorter intake valve.

I was looking at possible running the Ferrea hollow stem valves. The ones I was looking at were
Intake #F1050P 2.250 dia. 5.471 length .250 tip
Exhaust #F1051P 1.88 dia 5.450 length .250 tip
Do you see any issues with using these? Note, I will be relocating the shaft to correct alignment. Thanks for the input guys.

Out of curiosity, what kind of flow numbers are you looking for with those valves?

Jeremiah, I'm baffled. After the work we did on your geometry, I don't understand how you feel a longer valve would help geometry, when in fact, it is exactly the opposite. Relocating the shafts is not so much to correct the lateral position, but rather, correcting the height of the shaft centerline. Since it is already too low with a stock length valve, a longer valve would make it that much lower in relation to the valve tip.

Mike, If I run this longer valve would raising the shaft screw up my geometry?

No sir, even with the standard length valve, the shaft needs to be raised and offset for proper geometry, which improves clearance issues also. Putting a longer valve in the head would require the shaft to be raised even more. That's why I run the shortest valve possible for a given combination. As long as you can get the net valve lift, and still have about .060" coil bind clearance, that will be longest valve and tallest installed height you need.

That sounds right, I must be remembering wrong.

Thanks for setting that straight. For some reason I remembered the sweep pattern getting smaller with a lash cap and .090 worth of shaft shims, however the roller tip was getting awfully close to the edge on the shaft side. I haven't been into the engine stuff for a while so I'll bow out of this one.

The Hughes CNC "Monster Max wedge" is right at 400 cfm.
I had my heads flowed on a stingy bench with a smaller bore and they still flowed very well, and that is with the roughness from the CNC machining too. I think if the ports were finished with some sandpaper rolls to smooth out the CNC finish, they would flow even more?
