I'm sure Billy will wax an entertaining yarn about what transpired smile Watching the feed it seemed clear he was trying to nail a 11.50, got a 11.41 and 11.45 I think and then the 13. Best guess is the bottle was about empty as the 13 would be a realistic NA pass for the car I'd think.

Re: Hot Rod Drag Week 2016 live feed! - 09/15/16 12:02 AM

Just got back, was at Norwalk yesterday and Martin today. My buddy and I drove out each morning. Great meeting Clark and his dad for the first time, OutlawD with his really nice '66, Monte, and seeing Joel, Jeff, Jim and Scott again. I did not run into Ray, he would make a pass almost immediately each morning and then I wouldn't see him by the time I got to the pits. Have a couple really bad iphone photos attached, next time I'll have to use a real camera.

In the attached photos, Clark ran an 11.14 I think. Joel is getting slightly sideways in the burnout box, the Gebhart Valiant has the wheels up against the Chisholm and Stasiack gasser, and there is a pass from Jim yesterday at Norwalk.

Re: Hot Rod Drag Week 2016 live feed! - 09/15/16 04:20 AM

I spent a couple hours with the Gebhart clan on monday what a nice family and me and Mr Gebhart helped the John Deere truck load up in the pits. I even was able to get that elusive Summit part number for a 62 valiant FG hood upthanks again Billy I had a blast but I think I got the DW bug. All the racers were great most didnt have a problems answering questions. I was very impressed with what these racer go thru I know what its like to prep for one day but to have to plan for 5 days of hell they've more then earned my respect.

Re: Hot Rod Drag Week 2016 live feed! - 09/15/16 04:29 AM

I was back in the Gebhart pits when Billy ran the 9.66. He let out a yell when he got back with his timeslip in hand. Good run!! So cool to see his brothers drop everything to go over and congratulate him. He and his family are all super nice. I wish them the best of luck for the rest of the week.

Did the part for Monte's trailer include a 2x6 that was on the roof?! What gives? I have some pics that I'll post if I can figure out how.

I was there with an old friend, Les Smith and his Procharged '67 Nova - he ran 7.68, just .02 off his all-time best. Weather was great! Track was really good!

If you have never gone out to a Drag Week event - DO IT!! It is a very different spectator experience!!

Re: Hot Rod Drag Week 2016 live feed! - 09/16/16 02:04 PM

I only had time to watch a couple minutes of the live stream yesterday and it was right when they were interviewing Joel, pretty cool.
This drag week stuff is really neat and it has sparked my interest in getting back to racing. Even if you don't do dragweek I really like the idea of driving to my local track with a small trailer full of tools and tires instead of having to buy another big truck and trailer deal.

Re: Hot Rod Drag Week 2016 live feed! - 09/16/16 03:37 PM

I'm back at the hotel, siting #31 out of the quick 32 so hoping to run good today. One of my fuel pumps died on us yesterday but since I run two I was able to move the relay trigger over and be back on the road.

I thought it was OK on the track on just one pump but looking back at the data logs its not. My fuel pressure was a little low but steady at US131 and it ran 122.6mph. Fuel pressure about the same but not steady in Indy and it only ran 120, it looks like the primary pump has struggled some earlier in the week I just didn't pay attention. Ray is going to Jeg's this morning and is going to grab the pump I need and bring it to the track.

I enjoy driving to the track or doing the simple open trailer for out of town. At some tracks we back the trailer up to the fence and to set our lawn chairs on and put a popup tent over it. Pump gas makes it cheap and easy too.

Yea I loved my 24' box trailer and I liked my 16' open trailer for reasons like that along with the Hemi Ram but I sold all that stuff due to the weekly 9 second Racing getting expensive and I wanted to fully concentrate on my son's sports, now he has a trashed left knee and I'm getting bored lol, might have to get me a hitch for the back of the Duster lol. And pump gas is the only way I roll, much cheaper and easier.

Usually at Indy they arrive late and park way in the back as well (at least the last 2 years). Someone would almost have to be looking to run into it, real unfortunate.

It looks like the Street Eliminator bracket race will be an all 10 second affair.

looks like a few people are practicing hot lapping to see how their cars are going to behave in the bracket race, which is pretty smart.

It was blusmbl. The 7 pin connector came out of the socket and drug about half of it off, so I had no trailer brakes. Met him at Norwalk and told him what happened. He said he would also be at Martin. He took the time to go by an RV store and get me a new connector and lead and brought it to me at Martin so I could fix the trailer. I made a point to tell Frieburger and he announced it over the PA...............As far as the 2x6 on my trailer roof, it rode there 1000 miles. When I had a lean to built off the side of my shop for the trailer to sit under, the guy apparently left an extra roof beam on top of the trailer. Had no idea it was there. I parked right behind the bleachers in Martin and somebody noticed it. It was about 20 foot long and I guess was heavy enough it didn't blow off. It had actually barely moved, as you could see the outline of where it started out lying.

By the time the day at INDY was over, I was out of nitrous and didn't go to Columbus. Pumped 620 pounds of nitrous in 4 days

Way to go Nick!

And good job Monte, I saw you on the live feed several times.

Re: Hot Rod Drag Week 2016 live feed! - 09/17/16 09:39 PM

Thanks for telling Frieburger, Monte! I missed it being announced at the track (I think I was checking out the cars in the back section of the pits at the time) but watched the live feed later and caught it. I was just happy to be able to help somebody at the event. I saw Lutz broken down on 131 that morning, but my buddy and I both figured we'd be no help with troubleshooting anything on a pro mod car so we kept driving. lol

It would be nice if Hot Rod would list the engine family/displacement, trans and power adder for each car on the results sheet. There were some really awesome powertrains that I only picked up on after checking out everything at the track. Lots of turbo LS motors, but I saw a decent number of nitrous cars and manual trans rides too.

I have always carried 10 mother bottles and usually run out on Friday. This year I had 12 mother bottles and ran out half way through Thursday. Plenty of nitrous cars. It was a last minute deal that the Holley trailer wasn't there. If I had known I would have stocked my own trailer. I could have sold half dozen complete kits if I had them. There may not be a huge number of massive nitrous gulping motors like the Vette and Maschmeier as it used to be, but there is still PLENTY of guys who use it. 9 sec and quicker street cars just don't grow on trees and there are a ton there and ALL of them are NOT turbo cars

I actually sold a lot of shirts, which always surprises me. My shirts aren't "cool" nor have awesome graphics so it always surprises me when I sell any. Not sure why anybody wants one........LOL!!!

But it was you who made me decide to bring them. I went to get you a couple and decided, "hell, I will just put them all in the trailer"............LOL!!! Sold all my hats as well

Not being overly gaudy is what's nice about them. Most race shirts are too busy IMO.

Glad you sold a bunch.

it wasn't what was on the shirt but rather who the shirt represented that did it for my wife and i. we bought 2 from you there. you're a good man Monte and a great representative of Holley and racing in general. thanks for all of your help in the past.
