Any small block procharger guys? Need bracket/pulley advice - 05/13/16 05:56 PM

Hey everyone!

I have been planning out a procharger build for my 340. Looking to do it on a pretty tight budget, but the good news is that I already have the D1SC head unit and I can weld up piping myself.

My only issue is that procharger doesn't make a bracket or crank pulley kit for a Challenger. I called SDCE and the Supercharger Store and both of them were asking over $1300 for just brackets and pulleys. If needed, I may have to go that route, but I want to figure out a cheaper way....I really don't want to have to pay that much for a $100 piece of aluminum that I can cut/drill myself and an idler/tensioner/crank pulley.

My first question is, is anyone here running a small block procharger setup that they could take some pics of? Curious to see how the available kits make it work with power steering and no A/C

My second question, does anybody have any suggestions as far as crank pulley adapters for the blower pulley and how I can run the alt/power steering pump with the blower?
The bracket I'm not too concerned about, just a matter of cutting and drilling some 5/16th plate and getting the blower/tensioner/idler to line up whatever crank drive I have.

I may switch to elec fans as well, will probably need them and it should free up some space.

Well I will tell you that you need thicker then 5/16 plate for the bracket.

I'm into this issue right now. It looks like I'm adapting a 10 rib LS pulley onto a dual keyway ATI Chevy front damper. At last PRI they were all hot to custom build a damper for my needs, ie integral 10 rib and 60-2 reluctor ring. Later on the phone, oh yeah, that will take 8 months and cost a fortune. mad
Brackets I'll just build.

5/16" would likely only be correct if it was widely spaced, boxed and or braced. Starting with 1/2" would be a better starting point, but then we don't know your real boost or application targets.

use whatever you can for a smallblock chevy as stated have your crank double keyed and get an ati supr damper for a mopar with a chevy bolt pattern for pulley you can buy the lower pulley with 2 v belt pulley grooves for alt and power steering if you like like brad said brackets need to be overkill thick or you may have belt shredding issues we haven`t gotten far enough for pics so can`t help much there

Send me an email or your cell #. I can send you pics of my set-up. It's a F2 on a small block but it should give you some ideas. I'm pretty sure a small block chevy bracket will work with just a few mods.? And like webemopes said, get an ati damper drilled for the small block chevy, I believe that the only difference is that the Chevy has 6 holes evenly spaced where the Mopar has one hole a little off.

I have a used SDCE bracket I would sell, will fit any of that frame blower (F1A being the largest) to a small block. Pm me if you are interested, I went another way and won't use this.

1/2" at least, you can trim some weight off the ends but the center (longest open area) must be really stiff.

Kit pics. The blower mount, which includes the idler pulley, is quit involved - hence the $. Just the tensioner alone would be tuff to duplicate.

The adaptor you see ( at the bottom of the kit pic and on the front of the engine adapts from a mopar to a chevy pulley.

Notice the kit also includes the H20 pump because it is included in the mounting.

That's the bracket I got. The tensioner on it honestly looks like a gm parts store piece

Do yourself a favor, bit the bullet and buy the kit. Alternator shouldn't be a problem as it is on the right side. P/S sits below the blower mount on the left side. I went to manual steering, so no problem for me. If you intend to run lots of boost ( over 15 psi ), you will need to run the belt tensioner almost to the stop ( use all the tension spring ).

Thanks for the replies everyone! PM's sent to 80arrow and spareparts .

Crizila, thanks for the pics of the blower setup. I have a couple of questions on it if you don't mind. When you say the H20 pump is included in the mounting, is there anything special/custom about that water pump to allow for the blower bracket mounting? Also, the crank pulley adapter piece, does that fit hub centrically into the balancer and hub centrically into the blower pulley or does it just get aligned by the bolts? I ask because I ran a custom procharger kit on a Chevy LT1 made by a now defunct company where the included spacer/adapter piece didn't have a hub centric end for the blower pulley and I was never happy about that. I actually had a CNC adapter made to align it up.

A few questions for the guys who say to run as much SBC stuff as possible, are you referring to the bracket too? Has anyone tried to modify one? My concern with that was that it could be vastly different in where the bolt hole locations are, seems like it could require more modification than it's worth and may be easier just to cut my own out.

Point taken on the 5/16ths. I was thinking if I made it two pieces and connected in the middle with spacer blocks, but if I make a custom bracket I might as well just use 1/2. The last blower setup I did on a 96 Impala SS used 1/2" 1 piece bracket and I welded up some support bars to bolt from from the bracket to the heads/block. it worked great at 15psi/670rwhp.

That tensioner looks like a Procharger one. I have never had great luck with them, they aren't bad but they have less travel than some others before the springs bind. I have seen a few setups running 15+PSI using Dayco 89401 and good belt wrap. On the last procharged car I had, the kit didn't use a spring tensioner and just had an idler pulley mounted in a slotted hole on the bracket that the tension could be adjusted with. On a 12 rib belt, I was able to run 14PSI at around 590rwhp with no belt shreds or slip. It was a VERY simple setup, but it worked (probably thanks to the 12 rib belt). For now, I don't think I'd be running more than 6-8psi but I'd like to build it capable of more if I can.

Honestly, the Supercharger Store's price on the complete kit seems like a very good price. It's just that I don't need more than half of what comes with the kit. I already have the D1SC, pro-flo bypass, A1000 fuel pump and I wouldn't use their piping as I wish to run the intercooler I have here as well. The price on just the bracket/pulleys was just too high for my budget. 1300 for a bracket, tensioner, blower pulley and crank pulley plus adapter is steep.
