Dom will you have to change rear gears when you switch to a shorter tire or do you have room for more RPM?

My 9.79 was w/a Hoosier QTP w/91 cir. and 7200 at the stripe so w/an 88 cir. maybe the math wizes can figure that out but mostly just hate the 29.5 stance and obviously they work on bad ass cars..........

Wow, yea you'll need to switch to a different gear for sure I would think. Over 7200 RPM is quite high although some guys run more with a big block, it would make me nervous at the stripe though.

Re: M/T 28" W`S................. - 04/28/16 03:37 AM

Roughly 3 1/2% drop in diameter. So 7200 x 103.5 = 7452. Plus, if you plan on going a little faster, 7600-7800? Can you add a spacer block between the spring and perch to lower the back end?

The 275 pro tire circ is 89 and the Phoenix 28.5 x 10.5 is at 90 and are about $186 each at Jegs.

No E.T. to report... 28 x 13.5 Hoosier QTPs. Moved the rearend back approx. 2" when installing the ladder bars rather than cut on the 1/4s for clearance.(plus i like the stock wheelwell look). Only downside to doing that is slightly less weight on the rears,

Current gear/29"tire.
135.5 mph x 4.10 gear x 336/29" tire = 6436.+ 12% vert slip, =7209rpm

Same gear/28"tire.
135.5 mph x 4.10 gear x 336/28" tire = 6666.+ 12% vert slip,=7466rpm

thumbs Was even wondering if my vert slippage has to do w/the trap r`s and lookin back, I trapped bet 6700-7200 depending...........

Re: M/T 28" W`S................. - 05/16/16 12:55 AM

Mounted up the 28x10.5 w`s today unbalanced and went for a blast and they seem very smooth to me although the reduced circumference makes fwy driving a bit high r`s wise but no biggie. After my blast I pulled the car in the shack and a minute later the good ol Sheriff`s went screamin by.............. luck

Those calcs don't factor in bias-ply tire growth, so your slippage isn't that high.

If my friends car isn't ready in time for the Vegas race, he`ll tow me this Thu. for an 1/8th mile jaunt at Irwindale............ luck Kinda curious what if any gains I`ll see w/all of the changes and weight reduction I`ve made in the last two years.............

What's the side to side width on them and what rim size are you using?

Do you mean section width? Didn't measure it but I`m on a 10" rim and their chart shows something like 13.1 ............

Re: M/T 28" W`S................. - 05/16/16 10:56 PM

Yes on the section width and yes with a 10in rim. Every book I saw with specs had a diff one lol. I was looking at them or the 12.5 qtp. If you can measure yours I would appreciate it.

Re: M/T 28" W`S................. - 05/16/16 11:08 PM

They are close to their 13.1 section width and I love the QTP`s in the 29x13.5 size myself but have never been on a real slick w/this motor combo so hopefully we`ll soon see............ luck

Re: M/T 28" W`S................. - 05/17/16 12:32 AM

Hey Dom
Don't know what springs your running but I too hated the air shock look of the 70's. I put a set of calverts mono's with the 1" lower spring set up. In actuality it was closer to 2" drop. Had to buy shorter shocks also.

Re: M/T 28" W`S................. - 05/17/16 01:22 AM

The rear segments are many years old and I went w/the 25" ft. deal a couple years ago so not sure but may hit up calvert about the rear section after I get a few good passes on it as it sits..........
