ACL main bearing B block - 04/03/16 05:28 PM

anyone here using ACL main bearing in your B block? looks like no one is making champherd main bearing for after market cranks in B engines. i prefer ACL and just curious if your using ACL's.

440 source offers a Chamfered main set from Clevitte for the B Engines, I forget the suffix ? C ? or CH ?
Nonetheless,
it appears to be coming directly from Clevitte chamfered that way, NOT an in house mod.

ok, i was just on there site reading that, but according to 440sourse the main bearing offered for 400 block are narrow bearing and will work without a chamfer but you need to check them upon assembly. hughes offers the clevites chamfered as well.

I thought the 4094M bearing were the hot ticket in the 2.625" main size?

that is the bearing Cab told me to use. i had very good luck with the ACL's in the small block i would like to stay with that brand if possible. if not i have no problem using the fed mogul 4094m.

wow, just read some comparisons on ACL vs King bearings. seems the ACL's are all over the place lately when measuring bearing clearance compared to King bearings which seem to be very precise in clearance bearing to bearing.

IMO, Clevitte are no better these days, all over the map.
Tested a set of CB527HN recently against a vintage set of 15-20 yr old CB527H Bearings....
.0007" to .0008" Tighter Vertical Clrc in the same Rods.
then,
bought another set of CB527HN's from 3 years ago.... only .0003"to .0004" tighter...again, same rods.
and,
still using the vintage set as the "control" with the same rods.

My conclusion:
IMO, Clevitte Bearing overlays may be getting thicker ??
I just dunno here ?
But I recommend grinding Cranks smaller(even under lowside) to allow yourself "room" to get your Clrc.

thats nice to know. looks like King doesnt offer a full groove main bearing for B block either. looks like ill be getting the recommended fed mogul/sealed power 4094M at this point. may look at the King rod and cam bearing thou.

No H series bearings in Federal Mogul that I have heard or read about. These bearings,M4095 RB and M4094 B engines, where originally listed for trucks with full narrow grooves work I like and use them a lot thumbs

Funny , I have an eagle crank that uses out of the box main bearings, no chamfer is required ??

I would think a Molnar crank would have chamfer that didn't require hacking bearings ?

Re: ACL main bearing B block - 04/04/16 06:54 PM

that is a narrow bearing. i am now looking at getting the sp 4094m stock replacement which cab uses with good results or the clevite ms876p. i believe these are all narrow bearings. thanks
