Trick Flow intakes open for orders

Trick Flow intakes open for orders - 01/19/16 10:18 PM

Summit has the Trick Flow intake manifold available to order with a ship date of 2/29

Not sure what that means but at least the part number is now showing up. There is also a low deck intake with the same ship date. I'm going to order one just to see what happens.

I was waiting for someone else to say it. Could you imagine the bashing that would be going on if that was made in China? stirthepot

The TF appears to have a nicer plenum out of the box.

In my mind the pad/roof needs LOTS of work like most of em..........

Sounds like they will be shipping in the near future. I'll get it on the dyno as soon as it shows up.

I wish the TF RB intake was shorter than a Victor, but it looks just as tall.

Why, short intakes equal poopy power and most add spacers anyhow........

It's still gotta fit under the hood with an air cleaner.

Good news, Chrysler had lots of hood scoops to choose from

I thought air cleaners restrict air flow. I have never had a air cleaner on anything I have raced.

Apparently they straighten/slow down air flow...........

Your hood clearance is not what they are concerned about. They are more worried about their intake matching their heads for performance. You want something that sits low, won't make as much power and your hood close.......there are plenty of those already.

Re: Trick Flow intakes open for orders - 01/21/16 03:32 AM

Take an E-body Challenger, add a 440 based engine w/ raised-runner heads (Stage VIs w/ RB intake spacers or Victors), use a 14" x 3" drop-base air cleaner and cover the engine bay w/ a T/A replica hood. The amount of room for an intake manifold is limited by the RB block height and the raised-port heads pushing the intake up so much higher than an OEM-type head.

The Victors take up even more room than the Stage VIs w/ RB intake spacers. Whereas I could run an M1 w/ a 1" spacer or a Victor intake w/ no spacers, now I'm limited to an M1 w/ a 1/2" spacer and a Victor won't fit w/ even that low of an air cleaner setup.

So, I make a simple comment re: how the new Trick Flow intake is (unfortunately for my use) taller than I'd like since I can no longer fit a Victor under my scoop either, and the snarky comments and smart-a$$es have to come into the discussion. Thanks.

I went back to back runs a few years ago with & without air cleaner. Absolutely NO difference. And that's a drop base with a 3" element.

Re: Trick Flow intakes open for orders - 01/21/16 07:01 AM

I guess that is the reason Pro Stock runs air cleaners. Maybe they are worried about the weight.

Stop being snarky and smart-a$$ with your suggestions hahaha the skin is thin here! We're Lucky to have so many options available to us, ford guys have like one choice.

Like I said in the air cleaner post... did you
re-jet to see if it really does change(performance)..
I know for FACT that any air cleaner is a restriction
so a jet change is required.. its just a matter of how
much of a change and what filter you were running... I
flowed so many air filters it gets BORING.. with and
without adding fine dust to it

I actually did talk with a local fiberglass specialist about modifying the T/A scoop the same way Dick Landy did, but held off on having it done... $$$

If I could tear my engine down after every race, I wouldn't be as concerned about what got sucked into it, either.

Re: Trick Flow intakes open for orders - 01/21/16 05:24 PM

The comments are not meant to be "snarky" as you are calling it. A low plenum intake is not good for making power and as stated, there are already plenty of those out there. Why would TF invest resources in an inferior product. It's your choice to run a relatively low clearance scoop. You have to decide whether you want the best performance, or you want it to look stock. The two usually don't go hand in hand

Re: Trick Flow intakes open for orders - 01/21/16 07:38 PM

Patrick at Pro Systems told me that if the car does not go faster w/ NO air cleaner/filter, then the mix is wrong.

Put a throttle body on it with EFI, that should gain you an inch at least.

I got an email from Trick Flow saying the intakes are very close to being ready to ship. They didn't give me a date but sounds like near future.

For those worried about hood clearance there's a part you can try that might provide that extra little bit of room. If you have a 4150 carb and a 14" air cleaner, go to the Chevrolet dealer and order part #6422188 - it's a drop base originally designed for mid '60s Chevrolet muscle cars with the 780 Holley. It drops about an inch lower than any aftermarket drop base you can find.

I have two. One original Z-28 and one from 15 years later. They are low for sure, and make a really nice entrance to the carburetor.
But, the air filter assembly was very expensive, so bring plenty of coin. Don't know what just the base would cost.

Wow, I just looked them up. The entire assembly for $85 or the base for $60. I remember the dealer list as $145.00, and that was 20+ years ago.

Thats actually not too bad compared to your regular cheap universal air cleaners everyone is selling!

I just buy the base, and pair it with an aftermarket 14" top and filter. Years ago I had a 3" K&N element and Moroso lid under the stock flat hood of a '67 cuda 440 with Holley Street Dominator and 850 dp.

The one I showed is a spare one I bought about 15 years ago, was like $30 back then.

My old 440 cuda street beater in about '92-93. Flat hood, mufflers, 9" tires, 11s on 92 octane

(I know it was rough - didn't care back then)
