One more question.....torque? 8 3/4, 489 case, spool, new bolts.

Re: ring gear bolts - 12/27/15 10:56 PM

Mopar used left hand threads to prevent bolts from coming loose so no need for locktite on 8 3/4 bolts. The Hi Po replacement Mopar bolts from Direct Connection and Moparts use to come with a coating on them, the original OEM factory ones didn't shruggy It won't hurt to use a thread locker if you want, I wouldn't use the Red or Green Locktite though twocents As far as torque the FSM calls for 55 ft lbs is what I remember and use thumbs I had to buy a 1/2 inch drive Snap On torque wrench that would measure torque on left hand threaded bolts, My Proto and Craftsmen clicker wrenches wouldn't confused
BTW which brand bolts are you using and what do they recommend for the torque? Use and follow thier recommndations thumbs

Cab, I got the bolts with the bearing kit from DrDiff. No coating on them.

Many ring gear bolts have a locking plastic insert in the threads.

I use red Loc-tite on the threads and a dab of ARP lube under the bolt head on all my ring gear installs twocents
