Hyd roller lifter - valvetrain noise

Hyd roller lifter - valvetrain noise - 11/20/15 01:44 AM

So I have a new stroked 440 motor in a car (that I did not build, nor know who did). Long story. However, motor runs great. Tons of power etc. Issue is, was told it was a hydraulic roller cam. I’ve had lot’s of hyd cam motors, solid cam and solid roller motors but never a performance hyd roller motor. When it’s warm, sounds just like my old VERY aggressive solid roller motor. I expected with a hyd, close to a zero lash, it would be pretty quiet. So I came to a few assumptions:

*That’s the way an aggressive hyd roller sounds results of seat timing?

*Its not a hyd roller but actually solid roller. Guy I got car from said it was hyd. Maybe he was wrong?

*Rockers making noise, either brand or cam profile exaggerating the noise.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with a noisey hyd roller (if that’s what it is)?

Time to pull the valve covers - hopefully not past time to pull them.

Thanks.

Read through that. I know valve train when I hear it. Just like yours, mine sounds like my old .725" lift solid roller.
