Rocker shaft studs - 11/05/15 09:42 AM
Hey guys, was wondering if any of you have ever used rocker shaft studs?, I have Indy SR heads and recently bought the Comp Cams Ultra Pro Magnum rocker kit, I believe the bolts provided are most likely intended for iron/stock heads, as two of the bolts per side seem to just catch the threads by a couple.
The end bolt holes in the heads are farther sunk into the head than the center three, so they need to be longer.
This past weekend on the Hot Rod Drag Weekend I had valvetrain noise, checked the shaft bolts and the end one stripped, thought it would be stronger to use studs, instead of bolts. I drilled out and installed a helicoil this evening in the stripped hole.
Being a Indy head, the oil is fed thru the back of the head via a hose, instead of up thru the second bolt as stock.

Studs are the only way to go with aluminum heads,IMO. Indy sells their own stud kit, but ARP hardware is nicer if you can match the two different brands lengths.

I used the indy over the T&D stud since the indy's were longer giving more thread engagement.

I run SR heads with Harland Sharp rockers. I use studs and would not have it any other way.

You sir, are The Man!, I drilled and heli-coiled it last night, took measurements to call into ARP this morning, and here you are posting this, very cool and appreciated. We have a ARP account here, so I ordered these direct, get them tomorrow for the weekend.

The new Trick Flow heads require 10 studs which are all the same length. I mocked my heads up with 2.500 studs and then decided that 2.750 would work better.
