Weighed my car - it's 2 tons.

Weighed my car - it's 2 tons. - 11/01/15 02:34 PM

I was at MIR yesterday and I thought I'd weigh my Road Runner to see how much weight I've added to it over the last few years. It used to weigh 3720 with me in it. (I'm 200 lbs.) I knew it was going be heavier but there's a tendency to think you're lighter than you are.

I drove it on the scale and it weighed 3970 with me in it. That's a 3-9-7-0... I'm a cheeseburger, fries, and a few gallons of gas away from 4000lbs. Where did the additional 250lbs come from? - I've added an 8pt chrome moly roll bar, swapped an 8 3/4 for an S60, gone from a wedge to a Hemi, and added a GV. The only thing that's lighter is my wallet. So the math adds up and now I have to accept the fact that I'm a big, fast, fatty.

Dana is about 40 Lbs realistically. The Elephant in the room is an easy 100 + added with its heavier rods, pistons, heads, block and intake. Roll bar should be about 40 Lbs at 8pts.
What's GV?

Time to bring that pup down to a realistic 3500 without you in it.

Yeah, the GV is the bomb. Makes the car drivable with 4.30s. The other advantage is, I use it at the track. I shift into overdrive when the shift light comes on in 3rd. It allows me to shift at 5800 and I'm trapping at 5800 - running 10.0s. Of course it adds another variable with a 3rd shift but the car's been very consistent.

Oh Oh! Your car is very much like my new build. I was hoping for 3800 lbs with me in it (I'm 250 lbs). I will be running a 440 and have a full cage. Looks like I will need to be shaving weight.

The GV is a little heavy but I am very much looking forward to its benefits.

With what you've added, i don't think that's too bad.
My car with an iron headed RB, 8 3/4, sound deadening removed,HVAC system removed, anti sway bars removed, no rollbar, me & 9 gallons of fuel weighs right at 3800#

10.0s is flying!

I used to look at people racing heavy stuff and wonder what they were thinking?
Now I race heavy stuff and wish it was lighter.
4190 lbs on the scale for my junk.

Yeaaap, that's hauling the mail for such a brute. Even brought down to a respectable 3500 Lbs, that thing should be loitering in the 9's all day long.

Face it, street cars are heavy. My blown small block F-body weighs 3890 with me (190). My 64 Belvedere race car weighs 3340 with me. It looks stock but a lot of stuff is missing.

My SRT-8 Challenger was 4540 w/me in it at RT66.

It didn't run 10.0's though, even if you threw it out of an airplane.

Your car is very impressive.

I was at the MIR Mopar Classic on Sat too (10/31).
I put my 2009 Challenger R/T on their scale.
5.7 Hemi
Auto Trans
Leather Interior
20" chrome wheels

4305 Total
- 225 Subtract the driver and helmet
-----
4080 for the R/T with 1/2 tank of fuel.

I managed to get 13.35 at 105 mph out of the thing with the factory tires.

Love the picture of that launch!
I was shocked when my little Magnum motor'd a-body tipped the scales at 3700lbs without me in it.

I did not think you had picked up that much weight. It was good to see you and talk to you again Joe and I was glad to see you run so well in that very nice Roadrunner of yours. up Ron

Still looking to weigh my wagon on a certified scale. I'm guessing 4400lbs or better.
And that's with aluminum heads, intake, radiator and rims.
